Description
Opened in 2001, Poachers was a 5-barrel micro brewery which was originally situated on the former site of RAF Swinderby (a war time Bomber Command Station, latterly the School of Recruit Training before closing in 1992). The Brewery is owned and operated by George Batterbee, a former RAF man for 25 years who has come 'full circle', as he spent his first tour at RAF Swinderby which lasted for 5 years. Today the brewery operates from a converted barn at the rear of the brewer's house in North Hykeham. All the beers brewed by Poachers are also available in Bottle-Conditioned form.

Cask@Newark Beer Festival. Plain looking black beer with a chemically coffee aroma and a roasted dry flavour that could have a hint of coffee. Overall a poor dry stout.

The nose is sweet fruity with oranges standing out. The color is light amber with a huge orange head. The flavor is sweet, malty, fruity, and hoppy with notes of nuts. It ends on a nice bitterness. All in all an average ale.
