medium purple. Very interesting sweet potato nose with some soft Fruity notes in the background. Malty, slightly astringent mouth feel that is a bit strange. Very strange aftertaste. Don’t know if I really like this beer due to the aftertaste

Tap at Ichiya. Dark brown with orange, cloudy, with a low, fine tan head. Rich treacly nose, fudge, raisin, prune. Lovely treacle and toffee flavor, but not overly sweet. Light sherry notes, a bit of tobacco.. Full and smooth with low carbonation. Tons of raisins, and a bit of orange and maybe grape. This is pretty complex, and has an awesome bitter, peppery hop finish that balances everything perfectly. Really top level English-style BW.

Thanks to KL about the heads up this was on tap at Ichi-Ya. A deep opaque reddish brown with a thick filmy beige head. A fruity rich bready malt aroma - berries and caramel. Medium bodied but it somehow feels light and yet velvety at the same time. Sweet malted caramel biscuits then chewy malts and stone fruits. The flavor hints at spice and yet remains wonderfully balanced. The takeaway malt biscuity caramel with fruits - a great Barleywine that is dangerously drinkable. Top Knotch.

Bottle from Yamaoka. This is a fruit beer made with citrus bankan fruit, served in a half-pint glass. A cloudy orange-yellow that brings pineapple juice to mind. The aroma is of a thick citrus rind at first then some zestier fruit elements. Medium to light bodied with a seltzer like carbonation and an earthy/woodsy citrus that has an orange and lime character. Tangy citrus and some soda-bread malt character rounds out the beer for another solid fruit beer from Hideji, they rarely knock these out of the park but they also usually deliver solid flavor.

lovely russet color. Cherries, caramel, oranges and some chocolate. Sticky full body, malt driven lots of strawberries, oranges, brandy with bready undertones. Fucking awesome. Not overly hoppy. Really well balanced and put together and for 10% it drinks like 7%. Super well executed.

Black color, medium frothy head. Some aroma of vanilla and glue. Soft mouthfeel, moderate sweetness, flavor of vanilla, roasted coconut; thin final; it doesn’t feel the alcohol; not much bitterness.
Nice, a bit fake.

Tap at Oedo. Nice citrus nose, bready malt backbone. Great fruit flavor, very well integrated with the lager, nice bready malts coming through well. Crisp and very nice.

Tap at Oedo. Nice bankan citrus fruit nose with pale German lager malts in the background. Citrus flavor is a bit too sharp, though, with almost overwhelms the lovely background.

very clean, almost non-existent nose. Very rounded, slightly tart mouth, slightly citrusy. Very low bitterness. Fuller body. Not bad but not sure where it’s going
