About
Commenced Brewing 2004 at Mimram Rd, Hertford as Red Squirrel Brewery. Moved in 2011 to Berkampstead Rd, Potton End after merging with a local Wine Producer. Rebranded to Mad Squirrel in February/March 2017 with some core range beers being renamed and others simply changing name from Red to Mad.
A Forward thinking, contemporary brewery based just outside of London, at the foot of the Chiltern Hills. We have continually grown and evolved, often in unexpected ways. Always with a boundless enthusiasm for quality, an inquisitive approach to flavour and a restless desire to better ourselves.

Cask at CPK, Pimlico, London on 30th April 2011. Hazy amber with offwhite film head and hardly any lacing. Aroma was slightly yeasty, main taste was fruity with berries, crisp dry and refreshing. Dryish with citric notes in the finish. pleasant, lightly engaging texture; drinkable.

Cask. Amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is fruity, wooden, a bit nutty as well as slightly toasted. Flavour is caramel malts, wood, mild fruity notes as well as some slight toasted and nutty notes. Pleasantly balanced bitter.

Cask at the Harp. Pours clear red with a slihght film head. Leafy, dry fruit aroma. Light sweet flavor, some fruits, bit of leafy bitters. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Some dry toast to finish, bit of dried fruits, some faint earth and leaves. Nice.

Cask, handpump at The Horse and Groom, Caulcott, nr Heyfords, Oxon, 02.05.11 Looks great, pours warm golden colour with a white head. There is Morris Dancing in the garden, nice pint of beer, and the sun is shining, England in the Spring is a great place to be. Back to the beer. Good malty sweet base which is always showing a good undertow of hoppiness, hops are also on nose, some honey also in the mouth, marvellous beer. A great English IPA and yet as only an English IPA could be this is also a little restrained and yet still quite lovely. A7 A5 T7 P4 Ov14 3.7

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2010, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.Clear medium yellow orange color with a small to average, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted - caramel, light moderate hoppy, citrus, orange - citrus, fruity. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, plastic burnt bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. [20100804]

I have wrote down "Redwood American Pale Ale", but I suppose that it is an error and actually it is this IPA as it is 5.4% and "Redwood". Clear copper color, mostly vanishing white head. Berryish, hayish nose. Medium-bodied. Lots of apples, apple juice in the flavor. Flat mouthfeel. Like drinking sweet "green wine" (Vinho Verde). Not in top condition?

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Brown pour with a filmy head. Mild roast nose, hints of sugary malts. Nice, very accessible flavor, with modest chocolate malts and roast. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. Finish has some faint bitterness with more very easygoing roastiness. Super drinkable beer.

Cask. A deep red beer with a huge brown head. The aroma has notes of caramel and malt as well as lighter notes of over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and sulphur, as well as lighter notes of fruit.

Cask at NWAF, 2011. Dark brown pour with a beige head. Aromas of toffee, roasted malts, caramel, raisins and dark chocolate. Flavours of butterscotch, licorice and caramel. Sweet, malty finish.
