Description
The more than 725-year-old beer tradition in Litovel dates back to 1291, when King Wenceslas II granted the city the mile right. This privilege allowed only the Litovel burghers to brew and tap beer within a radius of one medieval mile, i.e. in a vicinity of approximately seven kilometres. In the Middle Ages, beer was brewed in a brewing house, which was then located at Litovel 57. Those with brewing rights were among the most affluent people, and played a significant role in managing the city. Even contemporary Litovel beer is brewed using classic processes, the roots of which date back to this glorious historical era.

A golden beer - very bubbly - and with a huge bubbly white head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of straw, but also some malt and flowers. The flavor is sweet malty with light notes of caramel, flowers, metal, and straw, but the body is thin.

500 ml can, bought in Denmark. ABV is 4.2%. Golden colour, good head. Very moderate aroma, some flowery Saazer hops. Moderate hops on a tolerably malty background in the flavour, nothing remarkable but I can’t detect any off-flavours either. A drinkable pils, not the best from the Czech Rep. but not horrible either.

Draught. Dark golden copper colour, huge creamy head, lacing. Hoppy bitterish nose with soapy hints. Wheaty, creamy and honeyish flavour. Very pleasant beer, though the aroma could be better...

Bottled. Dark brown/ruby colour with brownish yellow creamy head. Caramelly aroma with roasted notes. Sweet caramellish flavour with roastiness. Watery, but grows in finish. --- Beer aliased from original tick of Dark on 04 Apr 2005 at 09:42 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 6. Original review text: Tapped. Dark red colour with beige foamy head. Sweet plummy aroma with hints of smoke. Fruity malt flavour with hints of plum and smoke. Not typical Czech dark beer, so it was a positive surprise to drink this one.

From Presario. Golden lager with a thick creamy white head. Rather sharp dry hops in aroma with distinct finger of oxidation (bottle was dated 07.08.04). In mouth crisp generous malt and cereals with a good crispy Saaz hops in finish, and medium bodied and oily texture.
