Description
Our story starts with Tom Reynolds‘ dream of creating Bootleg Brewery as his retirement project started in late 1992, but it wasn’t until the last months of 1993 that he managed to obtain an approved Liquor Licence to put his building plans on track. After almost a year of hard work, the brewery was finally established in 1994, having it’s official grand opening on November 23rd. He set up the brewery with the vision of crafting high-quality, handcrafted beers that reflected the unique character of the Margaret River area. The brewery was named after the illicit alcohol production during the Prohibition era, capturing a rebellious and pioneering spirit. During it’s first year, Bootleg produced over 60 different beers which were sold only at their venue, with 4 of them remaining constantly on tap as the main core range: Bitter Beer, Stout, Wheat Beer and the iconic Raging Bull.

Bottle shared at the Bottle Shop during Cloin's 40th. October 2014. Pours clear brown with a foamy, off-white head. Nice toasted bread in the nose, rich citrus, orange, grapefruit. Medium sweet flavour with some light roast, more orange, mild earth. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Moderate roasted malts in the finish, light earth, cocoa, orange rind. Nice beer overall.

Tap at the Royston Hotel, Melbourne. Poured a clear medium reddish brown with a thin broken off white head. The aroma is roasty malt, red berry fruit, light coffee notes. The flavour is moderate sweet with a dry roasty, smoky, fruity, liqourice, raisin, light coffee, hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Initially hard to tell if this was trying to be a schwarzbier or dunkel, as IPA hoppiness fell short of the mark. Not much of a head on this, looks like motor oil in the glass, but nice roast malt in the taste saved the day.

Decent stout, not outstanding, but well rounded. Pours out black with small head, standard roast grain aromas and tastes. Fairly smooth and slick without being too bitter.

This served as a nice substitute for wine at a lamb dinner, light on the palate and complimenting the roast meat and veg. Nice crisp apple aromas and flavors, no tartness, smooth and drinkable.

Aroma kicks off with some nice bready aroma, mildly hazy golden body with a small creamy head. Taste brings more crackers, bread, sourdough tastes. Mildly sweet, but abrupt finish.

Nice caramel aroma falls flat at first taste, bland, watery and uninteresting. Lively carbonation but no head. Amber body, sticky metallic finish.

Pours black with fast disappearing airy head. Light aroma of molasses and dark malts. Taste brings in some anise and licorice. Light body, despite the syrupy tastes, licorice sweetness on the finish.
