Description
The Yeastie Boys - Stu McKinlay and Sam Possenniskie are the dynamic duo of New Zealand's craft beer scene. They burst onto the beer landscape with two trophies for their flagship porter Pot Kettle Black at BrewNZ 2009 and have remained firmly ensconced there ever since.

Yeastie Boys is a deliciously irreverent brewing company and, quite possibly, the world's smallest multinational. We take beer and people very seriously... everything else is unmitigated fun!

We brew in opposite ends of the earth - New Zealand, Australia & United Kingdom - to keep the world in good beer balance.

Bottle at home. Aroma is quite herbal, very floral, vanilla, jasmine, bergamot, tea, lemon, soapy, potpourri, hoppy notes. Flavour is light sweet and moderate bitter. Medium bodied. Generally I adore Earl Grey IPA but this was something else, truly off-the-scale herbal and floral. Interesting, but not necessarily a drinking experience I care to repeat.

Can from Biernavigatie. Aroma is fairly hoppy with rice, citrus, tropical notes, with a light soapy touch. Flavour is light sweet and medium bitter with a decent dry finish. Body is light to medium. I can't fault this nicely hopped and dry 'Rice Golden'. Goes very well with Asian food.

From tap at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam. Aroma is lots of herbal bergamot, hops, nettles, soft citrus, and malt. Strongest Earl Grey I've ever tasted in a beer, it's intense. Flavour is light sweet with a bitter finish. Body is above medium. Quite tasty if you dig a healthy dose of herbal tea in your IPA.

[33cl can from Beer52.] A deep tawny brown pour, almost black, with a loose beige head; aroma of roasted nuts and caramel; a smooth malty caramel taste, not too sweet with a touch of spice; then a dry finish with the black tea coming through. Elegant.

330ml can from Beer52 at 5%. Clear gold with white top. Aroma of citrus, pine, pepper - quite fresh. Taste lacks a touch of zing to it but is quite nice. There is a fruity tang with a honey, light gooseberry and pine. Moderate bitterness.

330ml can. Pours near black with frothy beige to tanned head, excellent retention and lacing. Aroma has a sweet mellow herbal and tea with some caramel dark malts. Taste has an undercurrent of tea and lemon with a herbal bitterness running through with caramel and biscuit, occasional note of blackberry. A subtle complexity assuming that's not an oxymoron. Near medium bodied, a good soft carbonation which works well here, session quality. Excellent balance. A welcome surprise.

Can from Beer52. Semi hazy yellow-gold with foamy white head that settles to a nice top. Aroma is very much tropical noted hops, some candied citrus peel and pale malt. Taste is very fruity, not too sweet, nice level of bitterness, light herbal, soft carbonation. Very sessionable and tasty.
