Yellow color. Very nice aroma, not only the deep, floral honey, but also bushes from sun countries (Mediterranean area), a bit herbal, and fruity; impressive. Quite sweet, but not syrupy; the mouthfeel is quite lean; good honey flavor, with yellow fruits jam; there is a light smoke trace; some light tongue-tickling feeling. Excellent.

Saffron-yellow color. The aroma of fig is evident (the leaves, the trunk, the sap), then the honey too; wood, mild incense, smell of souk... Original, very much appreciated. Sweet, quite syrupy; good honey flavor, with a mild nutty touch from the dried figs, and some sweet wood; the acidity is subdued, so the alcohol takes on the task to balance the sweetness.
A different one, peculiar; very good!

Bottle shared with others at the post NotB tasting. Poured clear gold with a slight orange hue and a surprising small white head that started and remained at the edges. Aroma was mainly roasted coffee beans with a backing sweet honey note. Flavor had much more honey in it with a the coffee beans only coming out in the finish.

From bottle at Sunset Grill. Pours clear and golden orange with a no head. Aroma is herbal spiced honey. Sweet and dry herbal at once. Cinnamon, cloves and raisins - much like a gløgg really. Sweet and herbal to medium dry finish.

Yeasty honey aroma. Clear amber, still. Relatively dry compared to the other Makana meads. Yeasty and lightly tart. Lilly and dandelion flavor within an apple base. Prickly heat is on the lips, tongue, and back of the palate, but the flavor is not distinct. Mouthfeel is curiously waxy. Not one of my favorites and not because it is dry.

Sample from bottle at Glunz Beer Expo, April ’10. As the pourer said, it is very viscous, and we’re only getting a tiny pour because it is 12%. A bit of a figgy smell (I could say figgy pudding, but I’ve never had that). Very thick and golden yellow in glass. Tastes very much like figs. Taste much better than the coffee and chili meads I’ve had from these folks. Guess it just goes to show that meads work best with fruit. The fig taste adds to the thick mouthfeel. It sits on the tongue very nicely. Well recommended.

Sample from bottle at Glunz Beer Expo, Apr 5. Tiny sample, but in the glass it’s still a nice honey color. Mead smell, but also a bit of a coffee candy note. Does sit on my tongue like a mead, but with a coffee back to it. It settles down all right, but that coffee still comes across like coffee-flavored candy, probably mead is too sweet a base for coffee. Smooth and still. My experience with this meadery, I’m learning that meads are excellent blended with sweet fruits, maybe not much with bitter stuff like coffee or chile.
