Description
The Flying Monkeys Craft Brewery leads the Craft Beer Revolution in Ontario. Brewing radical Beers and creative Ales right on the waterfront in downtown Barrie since 2004, the Flying Monkeys was the first Ontario Craft Brewery to truly recognize the need to overthrow the conservative regime of macro-brews and timid small batch taste-a-likes and create a new Culture of Craft Brewing in our province.
Casting off the comfortable and respectable cloak of the Robert Simpson Brewing Company, and revealing our true selves as the Flying Monkeys late in 2008, we gave rise to the the collective creativity of our Brewery and committed our Brewhouse to the adventurous longings of the growing culture of Craft Beer Lovers in Ontario.

Bottle at home. Aroma is resinous hops, biscuity malt, pine, slightly sweetish fruits, tropical notes, touch of caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet and moderate to medium bitter. Body is medium. Not a fruity hop bomb, has more of a resinous and biscuity malty profile, but there’s room for some (tropical) fruits as well. Not bad at all, smooth drinkability.

From tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Incredible aroma of massively rich chocolate, roasted malt, cocoa, chocolate cake, brownies, chocolate milk, mild vanilla, tons of chocolate. Flavour is sweet with a moderate roasty dark chocolate bitter finish. Body is medium to full. Incredibly balanced and smooth, you wouldn’t guess this is a 10% abv brew, it drinks so easily. This is the most chocolate-heavy beer I’ve had so far, and I’ve had some beauties in that area. Epic chocolate brew! *** re-rate 2021: Still a lovely chocolate Stout, though I am not floored as I was back in the day.

Can from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Aroma is fruity hops with citrus, grapefruit, tropical notes, some malt and pine, orange, hint of caramel, lightly floral. Flavour is light to moderate sweet with a bitter finish. Body is medium. Not that juicy actually, more of a traditional IPA. Good classic west coast-style IPA.

Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. A bit superficial on first impression. Tart berry aroma with cranberry, strawberry, some bready wheat on the far background. Tart and medium sour flavour with a light sweetness. Light to medium body. Drinks quite easily.

Lactose milk stout at first, an herbal note on the nose that builds. Old-school mouthfeel. Slight touch of booze as it warms

Bottle shared at the Torun GP share courtesy of Grumbo. Aroma of gingerbread, biscuit, malty, caramel, cinnamon, nutmeg and syrup. Taste is full bodies with a boozy aftertaste. Treacle and syrupy. Very smooth and thick.
