Launched in 2012 by by Thomas Vogel, Dave Mobley, and brewmaster Troy Smith, Belching Beaver Brewery evolved from a desire to make great beer and have a ‘Dam Good Time’ doing it. The award-winning craft beer company is focused on two things: First, have a brand that offers quality craft beer, while also being whimsical and fun to inspire good times. Each Belching Beaver beer release carries its own individual style and personality. Second, make beer for everyone and all palates. Our San Diego Brewery hosts 5 different locations serving craft beer you're going to love, of which the Oceanside Brewhouse is the production brewery.

Hoppy, but not enough for a DIPA. Hazy dark amber with silky beige head. Hops dominate aroma and taste, pine sol finish.

Bottle from roylefkowitz, thanks! Pours deep black with a large brown creamy head that dissipates slowly with great lacing. Aroma is peanut butter, cocoa, vanilla, lactic sugars; kind of like a reeses milkshake perhaps. Flavor follows. Pretty sweet and just a light bitterness. Lots of PB, vanilla and chocolate going on. Gets cloying and old after a while, but at the beginning at least it is a pretty interesting beverage. A bit of lingering bitterness. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel.

It pours a pitch black with a 1" head of tannish foam. Tilting my glass and voila. Lots of nice lacing.

The smell is unmistakenly that of peanut butter! Imagine that. There’s a bit of a chocolate aroma coming through as well. Hmm...the smell sure lives up to what I hoped for slash expected.

Holy crap! The taste is even better than the smell. Yep, plenty of peanut butter, wonderful notes of or more like cocoa nibs, AND coffee. But there seems to be a mild fruity thang going on way back in the way background. I sense it infrequently but I’m pretty sure it is there.

Silky smooth mouthfeel, I kind of feel overwhelmed with how this is so much better than I had hoped for.

If I ever have another brew calling itself a Peanut Butter beer that doesn’t involve doughnuts and bananas, it has a BIG chore ahead of it to come close to what this here brew has accomplished.

Bottle with thanks to Roy! Pours deep reddish amber with a large creamy puffy beige head that lasts a long long time and laces well. Aroma is not strong, spruce, pine, passionfruit, wet leaves. Flavor is light plus sweet and medium bitter, earthy, fruity, a bit dank, wet leaves, spruce tips. Full bodied and oily with lingering bitterness. Pretty nice effort, actually.

Bomber from Bine & Vine. Pours hazy light amber with a white head. Hoppy aroma that seems citrus/earthy. Med body with gently foamy carbonation. It’s hoppy, almost enough to generate a hop burn. Flavor is lightly caramel with lots of mostly citrus hop on top. Even a little dankness. Very nice for such low ABV.

Keg at the Commons Alehouse, Santa Monica, 16/04/14. Pitch black with a moderate dirty tan covering that retains well. Nose is as the name - a solid peanut butter experience, light roast, chocolate, nut fuelled pangs. Taste comprises light roast, cocoa, more vanilla, nutty pangs, sweet licks. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, sweet close. Ok fayre, a little too sweet for me but delivers some peanut butter goodness.

Keg at the Commons Ale House, Santa Monica, 16/04/14. Lightly obscured golden amber with a moderate off white/light beige covering. Nose is bitter grapefruit, good slather of pine, light dank tones to the well presented hoppage, pithy orange, tangerine. Taste comprises big pine bite, bitter orange, spice, light sprucey wood shavings, mandarin, suggestion of booz, bitter grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi aggressive hop bitterness in the close. Solid DIPA.

Bottle. Alcohol based peanut butter extract based on the label ingredients? Pours with a near black hued body and a medium sized tan head. Aromas are like a certain chocolate peanut butter cup candy, lactose, milk chocolate, dusty, cocoa powder, nutty, moderate esters. Flavors are sweet, nutty, peanut shells (which I’d normally associate with over extracted malt), slightly salty, chocolate, medium body, peanut butter, off dry, chocolate, lots of lactose flavors. Medium - full bodied, moderate carbonation. Chalky, medium bodied. Not offensive at all, decent flavors.

Bottle thanks to Nick. Pours a dark brown with beige head that leaves spotty lacing. The aroma is strong peanut butter and wafers. Medium mouthfeel with rich chocolate, light peanut butter, and light dry finish. Very good.
