Description
We are a small independent local brewery, located in the center of Antwerp.
Founded by, and entirely owned by, beer lovers. 100% independent, not part of larger brewery groups, or investors. Since 2012, the Antwerp Brew Company has written a new chapter in the rich Antwerp brewing history. Our brand new brewery boasts the latest technology. We combine these with traditional brewing methods, an open brewing spirit and a never-ending drive to top quality.

Thanks. Small draft sample @ Gollem. Dark amber, little white head. Nose is extract-like caramel, thick caramel syrup, malty with coriander, feels a bit hollow, sugar sweet,… Same type of caramel dominates the taste with lots of caramel extract like flavors, candy sugar, malts & coriander, not really getting USA hops, faintly metallic,… Hollow caramel body,… Okay but redundant. It is a bit like De Koninck on steroids with coriander & spices, if that sounds like something you have been missing out on, this is the beer you need. Also that name,… I find it hard to get positive associations when I hear the terms alcohol & boats in the same sentence.

Licht troebel gel bier met schuim. Smaak is licht zuur, heeft heel ver weg iets van Lambik, maar verder erg goed, licht bitter en fruitig. Gedronken in de Kiekenshoeve in Essen.

11.2oz grenade bottle. What looks to be filtered orange-tan body. Not much of head, bubbly soda action. Kind of has the aroma of a rustic Belgian Golden ale, maybe with some earthy Bierre de Garde, maybe some wet hay. Has a nice crisp bite to it, which really carries it. Spelt? Lemony wheat tones converge with the fruity Belgian yeast. Quite drinkable. Grows on me more and more, mellow funky tinged Belgian Pale Ale. One of the better new Belgians beers I’ve had recently.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of yeast, citrus, herbs, light fruit and and unexpected light Brett funky note which I’m sure shouldn’t be there but actually is quite pleasant. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation.

Much-debated restitution of a historical Antwerp beer, launched in 2012 by a former Moortgat employee. The original and therefore necessarily old-fashioned glass and label have been kept in honour - and considering my interest in Belgian beer history, this immediately elicits some sympathy from my part. The beer shows a sticky, off-white, stable head and cloudy ochre golden blond colour. Aroma reminiscent of a witbier, with obvious sourish wheat and lemon peel, something sweaty and grainy, as well as apple, biscuit, almond, honey. Mild fruity onset, apple and some citrus, medium carbo, wheaty beginning with freshly sourish accent, bready, sweetish background, powdery and somewhat starch-like mouthfeel, quite a lot of body, lemony freshness in the finish, thirst-quenching. A tasteful ’tarwedubbel’, I like it.

Florals with a little bit of an odd yeast aroma. Pours hazy yellowish. Bread yeast. Some banana. Kind of tastes like a Belgian wit. Tap at Sancho pistolas.
