30/V/15 - 33cl bottle from a trade @ Hoek (NL) - BB: 6/III/17 (2015-735) Thanks to 77ships for the trade!
Little hazy deep blond to orange beer, creamy white head, little stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: very fruity, citrus, bit floral, soapy touch, grassy, spicy. MF: lots of carbon, medium to light body. Taste: pretty bitter, grassy, bit sourish, lemony, spicy, coriander, bit metallic, soapy. Aftertaste: little bitter, coriander, soapy, floral. Average but decent.

Bottle from Olala. Pours clear, dark brown. Good and rather resistant foam that is to the light side ( as like the beer itself, its lighter than the average 9% stout ) Smell has some roasted malts, to the oat side. Taste is bitter, very roasted. Very dark chocolate. The MF and carbo are very nice, feels really good in combo of the tasteprofile. A 9 % does makes you expect a bit more silky smooth , thick body, but if I hadn’t watched the ABV, this would have been one hell of a stout ! The boozyness is very acceptable. Yeah, everything is really in place here. Belgians can be proud of this, since Belgium doesnt have to many good stouts ! I would call it imperial though, because that sets the base for perhaps wrong expectations.

Bottle @ Olala, served with a platter of special chocolates next to it. Pours unclear blonde, with a good white head. Smell is ;ildly hopped with some grain touches. Taste is surprisingly bitter - which is nice to break the layer of our chocolate-snacks - and has some hoparoma. Good mouthfeel, nice intensity for the ABV. Good drinking beer, but nothing really new.

330 ml. bottle drank @ Opening Pop-upshop Olala. Light hazy sparkling golden, pretty big creamy white head. Nose is touch artificial big lemon citrus, reminiscent of Duvel Tripel Hop Citra, it is rather yeasty at the same time with light grass. Taste is lemon, citrus hop, citra but the yeast dominates almost as heavily, giving it a bit of a nondescript flavor, touch white sugar yeast, tad plastic, touch grass,… Body is yeast, white sugar, touch too unclear and heavy. A good beer for the average beer, could have been more outspoken for me but all the same a pleasant and enjoyable beer. Not a bad effort at all and pleasant to drink, a good background beer for sure.

330 ml. bottle + sample drank @ Opening Pop-upshop Olala. Dark brown with a big mocha head. Nose is umami mixes with basic chocolate milk sweetness, light brown sugar, very simple. Taste is easy to drink basic chocolate milk, light umami, soy sauce, brown sugar, hazelnuts, very simple, umami dominates too much for & it lacks complexity but it still drinks okay. A good entry for someone not into the style which might have been their objective. Body is lighter than you would expect & the whole feels like a 7 % ABV or so light stout. Okay. I tried a black chocolate as a recomended flavour combination, didn’t work, the chocolate completely overpowered the taste of the beer.

Little hazy red brown beer, creamy irregular beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: bit fruity, sourish, some pears, funky, red wine, vinous. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: very fruity, peaches, little sourish, sweet notes, yeasty touch. Aftertaste lemony, alcohol, slightly sourish, very fruity still. Very original and interesting brew!

Good amberish tinted head over hazy red-amber beer; end of bottle solid yeast. Very vinous nose, red wine indeed, sweet - (malonic)sour. Sour-lactic flavours, with a sweeter, malty, fruity, but also slightly dusty background. Peppers are traceable once one is aware of them, but remain mild, and are more prominent in the MF. Which is rather fizzy, spritzy, and features light body and high attenuation. More than meritorious. Pirlot and his Bordeaux casks - a recipe for succes. Glad also the peppers aren’t too imposing.

Sampled @ O.B.E.R. Kerstbierfestival 2014, Essen. Leicht trübes dunkel bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit wenig beigen Schaum. Geruch säuerlich, malzig, muffig. Geschmack säuerlich fruchtig, Pappe, nicht gut!
