Description
Flying Dog Brewery is a craft brewery located in Frederick, Maryland. It was founded in 1990 as a brewpub in Aspen, Colarado by George Stranahan and Richard McIntyre. Demand for Flying Dog beers quickly grew beyond the brewpub's capacity. In 1994, the company opened a 30-barrel brewery (Broadway Brewing Company) in Denver. Looking to expand again in 2006, Flying Dog purchased Frederick Brewing Company in Frederick, Maryland and began producing beer in both Maryland and Colorado. In December 2007, Flying Dog announced that it was closing the Denver brewery and would solely produce beer in its Frederick facility.

I am not overly familiar with this brewer. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a chestnut color with a large tan head that faded quickly. The aroma was sour malts and was mildly vegetal. The flavor is bitter chocolate, light tangy malts and a mildly nutty undertone. The finish is a mix of dry chocolate and nut. The taste is really more like a brown ale than a typical octoberfest. The taste was not too bad which was a welcome discovery given the rather questionable aroma.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Black and opaque with a handsome, creamy head. Lovely hoppy nose. Surprisingly sweet with great notes of caramel. Lots of roasted malt, lightly burned flavours. Very lovely. 031205

bottle - This tastes like a pretty standard IPA with the characteristic powerful hops flavor and aroma. It’s decent, but I don’t detect anything special here. It’s an average IPA choice for any hop head.

Nice wheat ale, hazy golden in color with a cream colored head. Acidic taste with citrus overtones. A good wheat ale.

Bottle - Pours with minimal head, very dark brown, strong malty aroma. Flavor dominated by roasted malts. It’s easy to drink and tastes like a fairly typical porter to me. I’m not getting the Scottish part that’s advertised.

bottle - This is a nice pale ale, and is on the high end of the bitterness scale for the style. It has a somewhat malty aroma, but the taste and aftertaste is dominated by the hops. This brew is a pretty good choice, though certainly not the best of what’s probably my favorite style, the pale ale.

bottle - I don’t understand the "bitter" comments. It doesn’t taste even a little bitter to me. It would probably be better if it did. It’s a okay ale, but mostly it’s boring. Better than a Bud, but nothing to get excited about. This "Tire Bite" ale definitely needs more bite. Maybe that’s the style of golden ale.

An opaque brown beer with a lazing though collapsing brown head. The flavor is sweet and very roasty, while the flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, roasted malt, and chocolate combined with hops. Nice one.

Bottle. Sweet grainy malt aroma. Light yellow color with small head. Slightly sweet/tart malt aroma with hint of hops in the finish. Favorably comparable to the German Koelschs.
