Bottle. Black with a fat coat of tan head that's soon at the rim. Muscular roasty aroma with obvious oaked red wine, plums, chocolate. Creamy texture. The red wine notes don't overwhelm the stout, but there's lots of sweet red fruit and a fair bit of oak - those barrels were not very empty, I'd guess. The roast and a bit of strong bread and chocolate fill things out and then there's some bitterness as well as oak at the end. It gets pretty drying after a while and maybe a whole bottle will be too much. But this is lovely. [For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure I had old Brass Monkey in the late 80s at the Redback Hotel in Flemington - IIRC it was creamy, quite sweet and about 5.5% ABV. ]

Bottle. Red with a collapsing off white head that's soon gone. Dull cherry aroma. Better taste - dryish with a lick of sourness in the cherries, crackers and a dry and fairly bitter finish. Disappointing. Meek, uninvolving.

16/10/2022. Bottle from Beer Wine Spirits. Pours clear deep golden with a small frothy white head. Aroma of citrus, grass, caramel, malt, flowers, slight chalky edge. Medium sweetness and light bitterness. Moderate body, average carbonation. Fair enough lager.

Bottle. Amber with a white head. Aroma of breadcrust and some gentle earthy and spicy notes. Sweetish at firm with breadcrust, then bitterness struggles slightly to come through but ends up balancing quite well. A much maltier offering than I'd guessed and not bad at all.

375ml can into schooner glass. From BWS, Glen Innes. The last of 3 'Aussie Wheat Ales' released at the same time. Mountain Goat and Green Beacon being the others. Pale amber beer with a slight haze. Bubbly white head which dissipates, medium carbonation. Nose of citrus fruit and bread. Light body, easy to drink. A little bit fruity, a touch of bitterness, hint of pepper. Lingering fruitiness. Pedestrian but not horrible.

Can. Almost clear orange with a frothy 2cm white head that never quite disappears. Aroma of oranges, lime, crackers, white pepper. A taste confirms it's not a rebadging of Redback (although that went through the corporate wringer so many times, who knows): citrusy without the softness of a hefeweizen. A tiny twanginess from the wheat then a grassy and peppery finish that's got a bit of bitterness to it. Refreshing.

345ml bottle into shaker. From BWS, Glen Innes. Clear golden amber beer with many swirling bubbles and a large head of white foam. Patchy lacing. Nose is sweet malt with a touch of pepper. Light body, neutral taste. Finish is lingering with notes of bitter fruit and light caramel. Really nice lager, quite a surprise.

I see the zombie has been reanimated. First Alpha Pale Ale in cans (which is once again great), now this. Bottle. Slightly cloudy golden amber with a fluffy half inch of white head. Aroma is peachy and spicy with light biscuit and breadcrust behind. Sweet with big yeasty and stone fruit vagueness before grassy and spicy bitterness. An earthiness I didn't love. It's more polished but comes across a throwback to the 80s when Coopers but a bit more English was the aim of many. But that's quite OK by me. Refreshing.
