Description
Inspired by local brewing traditions and the vibrant US craft beer scene, Magic Rock Brewing is the culmination of a lifelong passion for beer. Richard Burhouse (aided by head brewer Stuart Ross) started the brewery in 2011 in an old out-building of the family business in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire.
Alongside a distinctive core range we produce an ever changing line up of idiosyncratic beers with an innovative quality driven approach. Our ‘Same but Different’ beers are packed with intense yet approachable flavours which will challenge and inspire, but above all remain balanced and drinkable.

In 2022 Lion breweries have sold Magic Rock to Odyssey Inns.

Can from Beer52. Misty gold with small white top. Aroma is citric with hints of the botanical. Taste has a lemon and lime fruitiness with botanicals and a drying pine finish. Light to medium bodied, slick, easy drinking but with a very dry end. Its decent.

Clear gold, small white head. Aroma of mandarin, lime and grapefruit come through. Taste of grapefruit, citrus noted sherbet and ginger biscuit. I enjoyed the juicy adjuncts and hop at the start and the decent bitterness and light spice in the finish. The middle sherbet noted part drags a bit although is pleasant. Light to medium bodied, fine carbonation. Nice fruity palate cleanser type beer.

Can. Clear ruby to brown colour with fading beige head. Aroma of semi-roasted malts, moreish chocolate and caramel, nuts. Taste is the same with some brown bread and do es showcase a decent malt quality. Some roasted bitterness balances the sweetness well. Notable hops in the finish could elevate this but it is a brown ale so that's being greedy. It's a very tasty one.

Cask at Shakespeare, Summer Row, Birmingham. Pours brown, small beige head, decent lacing. Very sweet with caramel, nuts, earthy malts, hint of cocoa. Average depth but reasonably tasty. Smooth as you like with low carbonation.

Can from Morrisons. Semi-hazed orange with decent white top. Aroma of mango, apricot, pineapple, pine, slight dankness. Taste is quite piney and moderately dank but with grapefruit and mango fruitiness to balance. Quite drying in the finish with a chalkiness but misses something at the end. Nonetheless I found this quite tasty.

Can from Waitrose, Solihull. Semi-hazy orange-gold with small white consistent top. Aroma of pineapple, mango, citrus zest, dust. Taste again is fruity with orange, mango, candied fruit, light hop spice tingle. Semi-drying, medium body, modest bitterness. Lovely level of hops for a £3 can. Slightly off balance. Needed more bitterness to offset the sweetness. Still tasty through.

Can from lowcostbeer.com, consumed 1 day before BBE. Murky orange-brown with small off white top. Sweet, orange zest, resinous pine, caramel malts and light dank herbs on the nose. Bittersweet zesty, piney and quite mineral noted, warming and a bit toasty in the finish. Medium+ bodied, zingy carbonation. Lacks a but of finesse but its nice.

Can from lowcostbeer.com, consumed 2 months past BBE. Semi hazy gold with small white fine top. Lime comes through in aroma with some apricot and citric like hopping. Taste is the same, quite zesty and pithy, slightly rich but a soft medium body helps. Its ok.
