(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Cloudy, dark brown - close to black - with an off-white head. Woody, bourbon-like aroma with hard roasted malts. Quite full-bodied, hard roasted malt accents - almost burned - with bourbon accents and a bitter finish. There’s an ashy twist also. Still incredibly yummy. 021107

Bomber pours a clear deep gold with a slight copper hue and off white head. The aroma is mild with sugar smelling malts and mild grapefruit hop bitterness. The taste has a solid malty sweetness and a delicious mix of grapefruit hop bitterness and sweet flavor. Certainly a nice example of the classic San Diego IPA.

Bottled (Thanks Stoutlover72!). Deep amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is bready and grassy/flowery hops. Flavour is the same along with a balancing touch of fruityness. Also some slight yeastyness and alcohol can be cfound. Big grassy and alcoholic aftertaste.

Courtesy of Degarth. Pours a super dark brown but not opaque with lasting mocha foam ring. The aroma is big, rich and malty with highly roasted malts, burnt malts, mild chocolate malts, some molasses and a hint of the ABV. The flavor is rich, yummy and forces another sip overcoming the will of the imbiber. I get roasty malts, a big hunk of burnt malts, sweeter malts with molasses and rich creamy dark chocolate malts. I also get some mild dark fruity esters that add nicely to the rest of the matly sprectrum. The ABV is well masked but noticeable.

Dark nut-orange color, small off-white head. Bready, citrusy hoppy aroma. Very malty, bready hoppy flavor. Notes of citrus, but mostly yeasty and alcoholic. Warming, but not kind of IPA I like, Score 4.06 seems quite overrated if judged by this bottle.

Tasted at Lost Abbey’s 1st Annual Barrel Tasting. Pours a clear dark brown. The initial aroma was big full of sweet caramel and sweet roasted malts. The next whiff was a dryer oak to red wine combination. Then I get more tasty caramel aromas again along with toffee and is that chocolate too. The taste starts with a brief burst of sweetness. Then red wine dryness and tartness hit and move into more tartness toward the finish. The caramel and toffee noted in the nose are faint and somewhat hidden in the back. I get some oak in there too but it is subtle and residing in the background sort of throughout the taste experience. Not at all what I was expecting based on the aroma and what Old Viscosity tastes like. The barrel aging has had a big influence.

Bottled. Opaque color, short brown head, only some lacing. Aroma of chocolat, some coffee, roasted malt, mocha. Great. Taste of roasted barley (lol), milk chocolat, very bitter, some coffee. Pours bright gold into a tulip. Fluffy white head leaves little lacing as it slowly recedes. Pine and citrus aromas. Creamy caramel, pine and citrus. Lasting bitter finish.

Bomber from footy (thanks, man!) - fairly thick black pour, with just the faintest film of lace around the glass - the aroma is full of dark fruits and an almost belgian quad sweetness - the roasted dark malt aroma squashes this character fast, though, along with some brown sugar and light cinnamon and nutmeg - slick mouthfeel, low carbonation - strong roasty character, with a mellow hop bitterness that hitches a ride along with it - light dough character, along with some spiciness that is complimented by a medium alcohol warmth - very well-attenuated - not a lot of unwelcome sweetness hanging around, just enough to balance the beer - coffee and dried dark fruits stick around long into the finish - well-balanced, and not nearly as in-your-face as a lot of american imperials like to be.
