Thanks to footy for this - hazy copper beer, with a small ring of lace - loads of grassy, earthy hops exploding out of the glass, so well-blended that it’s hard to pick out individual types - the hop flavor is huge and aggressive, but not abrasive like many of these beers can be - very grassy, herbal, and earthy - just enough malt backbone to add complexity without making the beer sweet - she stays about as dry as she can be for the abv, which compliments the extreme bitterness - very nice.

This is very good and hard to classify in to any style. A black beer with a very thick pour. Almost no carbonation. I’m happy the bourbon is hidden and not there to ruin this fine beer. Lots of oak in the flavor, some very light smoke, bread, and a hint of coffee. Thick and heavy on the palate.

Bottle. Pours a slightly orangish copper with a touch of a frothy white head that leaves a touch of lacing on the glass. Aromas promise grapefruit rinds and caramel malts with a bit of a pine bite to it. After first sip, I’m sold. This is really nice. The malt and hops are in perfect balance... there is a wonderful caramel body that supports heavily hopped opening and finishing salvos.

Blind tasting at sk8vikings porter / stout tasting, beer no 26. Pours dark brown almost black, with a brown rim head. Roasted malt flavour. Heavy roasted flavour, slight chocolate. Alcoholic flavour, nice but lacks some freshness and balance to be really great.7-4-7-4-14=3.6
75 cL bottle, 2005. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is dark roasted malty, light wooden note. Sweet, dark caramelish, toffee and breadish. Dry roasted malt base. Mild liqourice to smoke note. Smooth lingering and dark roasted malty flavoured into the finish. Smooth.8-4-8-4-16=4.0

22 oz bottle from after4ever. Pour is a cloudy yellow, visible carbonation and big, fluffy, white head. Aroma is citrus hop, floral and a presence of biscuity malt. Aroma is mostly the hop, though. Taste is grapefruit tart citrus hop to start, nice balanced malt middle and a fairly long, resiny finish. Nice hop bitterness throughout. Palate is a touch watery, though this did add to its drinkability. Nice everyday IPA, for those with access to this everyday. Thanks for this one, Tom!

Brown bottle, 1 pint 6 ounces, savoured on Elvis’ 30th death anniversary; eye: black as oil coming out of the oil pan, opaque, no effervescence, coffee head, a bit of lacing; nose: vanilla, roasted malt, black chocolate, dark small berries, light tobacco, burnt toast; mouth: sticky, thick, acrid roasting, vanilla, sugar, black chocolate, good long finale that is well balanced between the roasted malt and the hops with a hint of acridness, light astringency, more bitter than I expected, full body, not much carbonation; overall: quite enjoyable FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 1 pinte 6 onces, savourée la fête de la mort d’Elvis 2007; œil : noire comme l’huile vidangée, opaque, pas d’effervescence, mousse café, un peu de dentelle; nez : vanille, malt torréfié, chocolat noir, petits fruits foncés, léger tabac, rôtie brûlé; bouche : visqueuse, épaisse, torréfaction âcre, vanille, sucre, chocolat noir, bonne longue finale bien balancée entre la torréfaction et le houblon avec une petite pointe d’âcreté, légère astringence, beaucoup plus amère que mes attentes, corsée, peu carbonatée; en résumé : bien aimé

Bottle: Poured a cloudy beige color ale with a small bubbly head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of medium citrus and bitter hops is somewhat less intense then I would have hoped. Taste is dominated by medium bitter and citrus hops with a lack of malt to balance the beer together. Body is pretty full with limited filtration with some low carbonation. I am not sure if I did get a bad bottle but I was not overly impressed by this one.

(Bottle 65 cl) Courtesy of markgugs. Pours a slightly hazy dark golden with a small, off-white head leaving some laces. Fresh grapefruit notes in the nose. Medium-bodied with a light, underlying malt sweetness, but otherwise completely dominated by a distinct grapefruitish bitterness. A bit soapy. A fresh west coast IPA but also solidly bitter. 050807
