Draught. Thanks to rsmeds for giving me a clue on this beer before my short 1 day trip to Rauma (a bit north of Turku) during Xmas day. So, rsmeds did warn me on wonderful aroma but quite crappy and empty flavour. I do have to agree on that one. Indeed it pours up enormously cloudy, and a weird brownish colourm the head was a very huge one for me though, slightly off-white (they even had to let the glass stand a while due to the foamy head). Aroma is yeasty, bananish, wheaty and also has some other berries and spices in it. Kind of Christmas meeting dunkelweizen. The flavour is wheat, yeast and dark fruit with weak banana. It somehow feels empty and watery. The typical "kouluish" nyance is also to be found in this one, though more hidden than in some others. Apparently this is a new "winterseasonal", which they decided to test out now, as their Christmas seasonal got sold out before their Portteri was ready. There may be another batch of this along with or after portteri again.

[Draught at the brewpub] Cloudy orange colour, small creamy head. Aroma of ripe banana with evident fruity esters as well as menthe. Sweet with low carbonation and some light grainy/mustardy malt flavour. The desired estery yeast character is definitely there, but it’s too sweet to be refreshing.

[Draught at the brewpub] Clear amber, small head. Light papery aroma. Fairly sweet with clean mouthfeel and light-medium body. The simplistic malt character makes it somewhat hars, and let cardboard dominate the flavours. A dull beer served in a lovely environment.

Draught@brewpub. Coppercoloured, small foamy head. Fruity hoppy aroma. Flavour is very hoppy but at the same time has sweet fruitish notes. Dry finish. Indeed a bitter, though it at first felt very sweet.

Draught @Koulu
A bit hazy orange, small crwamy off-white head. Light bock-like malty-caramelly aroma with notes of hops and "Koulu yeast". Malty, slightly alcoholic, typical Koulu flavors in the side. Nice bock with some hops thrown in.

Draught. Dark amberish black colour, small beige foamy head. Weak spicy and caramellish malty aroma. Flavour is quite spiced and caramellish, with a bit hops in the finnish. Quite pleasant. Still there’s some "typical" kouluish notes in both aroma and flavour, especially as the beer got a bit warmer these notes came through clearer.

Draught (now called only Oktober, due to copyright issues, same recipe as in Oktober Juhla though). Amber colour, mediumsized creamy white head. Malty, typical kouluish vegetably aroma. Flavour of vegetably malts. Hoppy finish. One dimensional, and quite boring.

Draught. Golden colour, a bit hazy. Small white creamy head. Sweet fruity aroma with hints of strawberry. Sweet fruit and berries in flavour, but the grassy/grainy hints ruin the flavour. Breadish malty aftertaste, but some grassy/grainy notes here too. Without the grainyness it would be very pleasant.

Draught @brew pub
Dark amber color, small creamy tanned head. Nose is yeasty, some berries (strawberry) and hops. Good soft palate. Hops are combined with a bit sweet malty backbone. Nice hoppy bitter aftertaste. Good summer brew (Kesäolut = Summer beer), which should fit to autumn too. (7/3/7/4/14 3.5)
Re-rated 2006 edition
The 1st beer after 3 weeks medical treatment. Amber brown clear color, steady beige foam. Very bready, slightly yeasty nose. Very typical Koulu-aroma. Very malty, harsh bitterness towards the finish. Bready, malty, harsh hoppy aftertaste. Quite close to what Finnish Karjala-beer used to be. (5/3/5/2/10 2.5) Draught@SOPP Turku 2012
Clear amber color, good big creamy white head. Stinky toilet aroma with hints of hops. Light bodied, active carbonation. Light caramel, light bready maltyness. Probably nice beer with food, but aroma was odd. (4/3/6/3/11 2.7)
