Description
I felt this desire to make better beer. While studying in London, I developed a passion for quality ales and when I returned to Connecticut with my family, I knew I wanted to leave consulting and turn my passion into a business. I worked hard to master my craft. My wife, Ann, and I opened the doors to Cottrell and on February 28, 1997, we rolled the first keg of Old Yankee Ale down Mechanic Street to our local watering hole, CC O'Brien's. Our mission was then, and is still now, to produce the best product that we can using fresh, natural, quality ingredients.

If you haven’t tried Cottrell , you are missing out on a uniquely brewed, quality product steeped in New England history and great taste. Cottrell is something I hold dear to my heart and I want to share it with the world

Mechanic St brewery closed in 2022 and brand sold to Powder Hollow Brewing.

Ok, I’m getting the idea that Cottrell doesn’t bother to make different beers, or at least change the recipe to much. I had their mystic bridge, S&P IPA, and this one at the same lunch, no difference.

Typical middle of the road IPA from Cottrell brewed for this restuarant, dont think they varied the recipe up too much from their Mystic Bridge IPA.
Earlier Rating: 10/1/2011 Total Score: 2.8
not the best ipa ive ever had, and although i realize cottrell is making an english style ipa, that doesnt mean they need to remove the hops entirely. try again cause im rooting for you.

Copper coloured body with an amber glow and a thin off-white head. Aroma of light grapefruit and piney hops, a good malt balance, a touch of sweetness and a very mild nuttiness. Medium-bodied; Nice fresh hop flavour that shows some perfume, some flowers and more grapefruit than anything else. Aftertaste shows a good balance of hops and malt with a nice finish - nothing bitter, but a good hop showing. Overall, a nice and easily drinkable IPA while still showing some good hop notes and a pleasant balance. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 30-July-2011 for US$2.25 sampled in a hotel room in Syracuse, New York on 11-August-2011.

Not going to win any awards, but a clean amber ale that could easily be confused with an English bitter, easy to drink.

Pour is a hazy copper with a large white head. Aroma is citrus with sweet malt. Flavor is better with hops and a nice helping of caramel malts. Finish has some resin left on the tounge but nothing to save this beer. Light over all and reAlly not all that hoppy for a beer calling itself an IPA.

Pour is of course an amber with a average white head. Aroma is of sweet caramel malts and not much else. Flavor is again more sweet malts with a touch of toffee but watery over all. Nothing great but an ok amber.
