Tap, a bit too cold at RedOak. Orangeish amber, small light beige head. Very hoppy nose - floral, with pine and spice, darkish toffee - smells fabulous. Taste has very moderate sweetness - it’s pretty dry, despite deep toffee. Nectarines, kumquats, mild hard spices. Just a _little_ window cleanerish. Nice balance, but genuinely highly hopped in both aroma and bitterness. Traditional but bold.

Bottle. Very pale clear yellow gold with a large lasting white head. High bead. Aroma has mild horsey funk, citrus, vanilla. Taste has modest tartness; it’s austere and wheaty. Very dry. Creamy and lactic mouthfeel is very extra brut Champagne before the mousse disappears. Modest but lingering sourness is just about enough but nobody would want syrup. Good aperitif.

Bottle. Cloudy amber with a large white head that collapses to an inch after a few minutes. Aroma has apples, pears, biscuit, flowers, citrus. Taste is really lemony - honey, apples, pears and biscuit lurk underneath. Finish is dry and has floral as well as continuing citrus notes. After that massive head it turns out to be surprisingly gently carbonated in the mouth. Very lemon-dominated but pretty tasty. [3.3]Bottle. Clear pale amber with a small white head that’s soon less than a coat. Aroma of lemon, grapefruit, leaves. Sweet with honey and pears, some lemon and flowers. Quite carbonated mouthfeel leading to a slightly astringent bitter finish. [2.9] Averaging score.

Bottle. Clear amber yellow with no head. Aroma is floral with a fruity (ripe orange) hint. Medium body and carbonation. Tangy fruity (oranges?) start with a lovely clean refreshing somewhat bitter finish. Overall an excellent beer, albeit somewhat unusual for the style.

Tap. Clear amber with a small beige head. Aroma of stone fruits, mild spices and caramel. Taste has caramel sweetness with grapefruit-tinged hop bitterness. Also an odd dusty and metallic note.

From a 330ml bottle on 7/2/2010. According to the bottle, this won the award for best bitter at the 2009 World Beer Awards (note my bottle says 3.5% rather than the 3.4% listed above). Lovely hoppy, grassy, fruity aroma with a dash of caramel on the malt side. Subtle malt and citrus fruit flavours are balanced beautifully with a long and satisfying medium bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Bottle 25cl. @ Chris O’s Night of the Gaylords.Clear medium to dark brown color with a average to large, frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, sipy - christmas spices, glue, wine. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20091229]

Bottled@The Chriso Gaylord Tasting. Deep amber colour, small head. Aroma is some wood, chocolate, mild roasted malts as well as some strange sourish/bitter notes. Flavour is quite much the same. Not to fond of this one...
