A light golden mead. The aroma is very powerful with dominating notes of honey as well as light notes of grapes. The flavor is also very powerful with strong notes of both honey and white wine, and the body is powerful too - no wonder at 12% ABV.

A red mead. The aroma is sweet and dominated by black berries. The flavor is sweet with stron notes of black berries and only light notes of honey. The alcohol is felt along the edges of the tongue.

A pinkish mead with no head. The aroma is sweet with notes of honey and berries, and so is the flavor, though added a note of grain?!? The mouthfeel is sparkling.

Straw colour is, well, a little dull and not terribly enticing. Aroma is very honeyish, lightly spicy (cinnamon) and woody. Sweet flavour with brash honey character kicks things off. Lots of spicy depth. Finishes with an alcoholic kick, vinous acidity, and bursting juicy fruitiness.

Draught No head, purplish cloudy orange-brown liquid. Very fruity, blackcurrant/raspberry; fruit- and other woody acids. Again raspberry/blackcurrant; quite tart (served too cold), but it misses some obvious fruit OR wood. Sharp, tart, I suspect pretty much alcohol. Nice, if it hasn’t taken all the good sides from both.

Strong honey, vanilla, and cinnaom aroma, prefectly blended. Clear yellow color and thin. Nondescript slight chemical edge and apple tartness. Alcohol is noticeable.

Rich, dark, honey aroma. Shimmering amber, slight viscosity. Thin light mouthfeel, tart, cidery, and almost feels uncarbonated. Rosehip finish. Must be a rhodomel. Very easy going and dark, with a delayed belly burn.

Bottled on July 12, 2006. My first mead that I have rated, hence I probably don’t know what I am talking about. Aroma has honey, clove and cinnamon in it, with a little bit of woodiness and maybe a hint of white wine. As far as appearance goes, I really have no idea how to seperate a good mead from a bad one. So a 3? Flavor stays in the mouth for a while and ends on a sourish note. Maybe a little bit of orange rind in the taste. Some of my friends who had it with me couldn’t stand it, some liked it (but then again none of them have had mead before, let alone rate it). Goes down like wine; watery with no carbonation and a moderate alcohol presence on the finish. Not bad for the cheapest traditional mead at the store.

From the bottle as part of a mead flight at Sunset Grille, 11/17/07.
Clear straw to pale gold, almost a chardonnay-like color, but with a hint more orange tones. Fully diminishing cluster of bubbles and flimsy legs left behind.
Aroma of dry, powdery sugar and old, plasticy vanillin extract. Little in the way of honey emanating in the nose, almost a straw-like dryness. Flavor is papery-astringent juniper twigs, in flavor and in texture. Not particularly flavorful, yet tremendously drying. Watery, straw-steeped-in-water sort of effect (must be the alfalfa) that is flimsy, not complex at all (I get barely any mead from this, just touches of light yeast dryness, vanillin and juniper). The only sweetness is a cheap, alcopop like candy/sugar. Stale and watery, though not sharp and fuselic for the 12 abv. Large, overly expansive bubbles further harry the palate and break up the flavors. In my mind, an analogy to beer makes this a spice/herb/vegetable beer that concentrates too much on the spices, letting slide the beer aspect. And even the spicing does not seem authentic and particularly well-done. Just atrocious.
