Courtesy of jdubFL. Pours murky deep gold with off white head. The aroma has tart to crushed aspirin like notes with poopie moldy dark fruitiness too. The flavor is pretty smooth to start giving up rolling pulses of berry fruit and dark fruitiness. It then slides into growing levels of tartness. It finishes dry. Nice balanced brew.

World Beer Cup bottle. Color is dark clear red. Pours with a small head, Aroma is vegetal and has a pea-like acidic sourness. Then there is some earthy, brown, maltiness. Some faint acidic qualities. Flavor is muted Flanders acetic with earthy vegetal qualities. Good stab, drinkable but very forgettable.

A bit on the chewy and heavy side for the style - a fair amount of rich Munich malt in the aroma, strong toasted grains, and sweet honey - a lot of the same in the flavor - sweet honey and roasted grains - the Vienna malt is a bit harsh - some herbal notes - fairly strong hop profile for the style in the finish that does not meld well with the rich malts - there are a lot of good elements, but not many of them come together well.

A fair complex wit - full-bodied yet refreshing - a lot of citrus flavors throughout, both sweet and bitter - unfortunately, the bitterness becomes a bit to strong through the middle, leaving the beer tasting a lot like grapefruit pith - some complex peppery and minty character that gets a bit muddled through the finish - perhaps a bit too much going on here, but there are many good points.

Hazy dark amber beer - impressive head - this beer has a very strong earthy hop flavor, but not a lot of the bitterness from the hops, which is a welcome change, but there is a fair amount of astringency, and even a light acidity in its place - some very add grape kool-aid kind of flavor on the tail end makes things even worse - kind of a mess here.

This is fairly true to style in that it is more like a black pils than a lager-y porter or stout, like a lot of american-made schwarzes are - strong noble hop profile that is really the star of the show for most of the beer - dry and very crisp until a moderate black and roasted malt character become apparent near the finish - still, the stress here is on a clean, hoppy black lager - nice.

First of all, this brew smells awesome - spicy, grassy noble hops provide an excellent base for the lavender and lemon peel - there are also some notes of spicy basil and other herbs - the flavor is very crisp and dry, with peppery, herbal hops - the added spices augment this character - however, the malt base is not substantial enough - just a tiny bit of toasted grains - so the brew moves from refreshing to watery in the finish - still, quite a nice brew.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a small off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt, brett, and a bit of bourbon. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, wood, brett, and bourbon. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

GABF2009 - identical to the kriek my ass - I loved that beer, but this one doesn’t have that lovely earthy funk that Upstream is usually able to produce in their beers (whether they intend to or not) - I taste raspberry puree and faint malt character - the raspberries are natural, earthy, fairly sweet - no real lambic character - like unsweetened raspberry juice.
