GABF2009 - identical to the kriek my ass - I loved that beer, but this one doesn’t have that lovely earthy funk that Upstream is usually able to produce in their beers (whether they intend to or not) - I taste raspberry puree and faint malt character - the raspberries are natural, earthy, fairly sweet - no real lambic character - like unsweetened raspberry juice.

Draft pour at the brewpub in the Old Market, Omaha Nebraska. Pour is slight haze orange copper with a smallish off white head. Nice lacing as the beer falls. Aroma of the ginger, coriander, earth, yeast and wheat. Behind that is a straw grassiness that gives it an interesting edge. Flavor is big on the ginger, and that dominates the taste initially. As the mouth acclimates to the ginger, the additional spices and wheat take center stage, and eventually this is a pleasant, nicely spiced Saison. Palate is medium, a bit rough, and less dry than the Lemon Haze Saison I had. This beer was interesting, and was likely somewhere between a Wit and a Saison in the style wheel.

Draft pour at the brewpub in the Old Market, Omaha Nebraska. Pour is orange golden, hazed with a smallish off white head. Aroma is immediately of the sugary sweet orange fruit and orange peel. Behind that is grainy earthy wheat and a clove yeastiness. The flavor follows the nose closely, sweet orange fruit and peel initially, followed by the grainy wheat, finishing with dry yeastiness. Palate is medium, dry in the finish which makes it drinkable and refreshing. The big sweetness is the main story here, perhaps a bit overboard, but does make it unique.

Tasting at Papsoe
Hazy amber color; small head. Very nice aroma, woody with some vanilla and light fruity sourness, dynamic, interesting. Medium body, some malt flavor, medium sweetness, light grape fruitness and delicate vanilla. Correct bitterness. A bit chalky at the end. Chaotic but also interesting.
