Tring Brewery
Microbrewery
in Tring,
Hertfordshire,
England 🏴
Associated Venue: Tring Brewery
Established in 1992
The brewery is known in the Home Counties for its cask ales, of which various styles are brewed at their location on Dunsley Farm in Tring.
Tring is a long-established small brewery, opened in 1992 in the Hertfordshire town of the same name. It was founded by Richard Shardlow, a vastly experienced brewer who had worked for Greene King, Ruddles and Devenish. He was joined in 2000 by Andrew Jackson, who had worked for Whitbread on the sales side and he rapidly expanded Tring’s base.
In 2010, the brewery moved from a cramped site near the town centre and is now based on Dunsley Farm, part of the Rothschild estate, on the edge of Tring.
Tring's core range of brews are themed around local Hertfordshire folklore, tying a local connection to their product.

Cask handpull at The Fly in the Loaf, Liverpool. Copper with thin beige head. Decent bitter. Bloody/iron aftertaste (thanks to the Scottish person at the bar next to me for pointing that one out). Not a typical citrusy Tring beer, but nevertheless quite interesting. Decent fruit and hop on finish.

Bottle from the Dodgi’ Deli’ Cowley Road, had this 21-04-08 Dark Chesnut pour with a rapidly receding tan head. Fruity and malty but a bit pushy on the alcohol front. Very nice beer with quite a decent tang, bit of an earthy quality and surprisingly bitter, this isn’t bad at all and if the alcohol was just a little bit better hidden it would score even more impressively.

Cask at the Plough and Harrow (JDW), Hammersmith. Reddish copper with a thin off-white head; unusual cinnamon and apple aroma; fruity malt flavour, again slightly spicy; balanced bitter finish. A nicely made but unexciting beer.

Cask handpull at Edgar Wallace, London. Chestnut/mahogany lasting bubbly beige head. Decent autumn malty beer. Tastes of fallen leaves. Malt fruits have depth and a red/dark fruits note. Good balance. Bit of lasting hop on end with sweet strawberry.

Cask gravity at Nottingham BF 2007. Deep brown with lasting beige. Very good mild, slight caramel, good condition. Lots of caramel, faint roasted malts. Good for the style.
