About
Het verhaal achter de brouwerij begint bij stamvader Balthazar De Landtsheer, die in 1773 in Baasrode werd geboren en er brouwerij “ De Halve Maan “ oprichtte. Zijn zoon, Eduard De Landtsheer, geboren in 1808, nam de roerstok over. In 1839 nam zijn kleinzoon, Emmanuel De Landtsheer, zijn intrek in de bestaande afspanning-boerderij-brouwerij “'t Meuleke“ in Baasrode-Zuid. Hij veranderde de naam in “Brouwerij De Zon“ (vandaar de oranje huiskleur). Het bedrijf was zo succesvol dat de boerderij mettertijd werd afgestoten en dat bier brouwen de hoofdactiviteit werd. Na zijn overlijden in 1879 werd Emmanuel eerst opgevolgd door zijn zoon Charles en later door zijn kleinzoon die ook Emmanuel heette. Emmanuel De Landtsheer schakelde tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog over van brouwen op bottelen en bierhandel. Na de oorlog kreeg zijn zoon Adolf de leiding in handen.
In augustus 1997 werd in de oude brouwerij van de familie De Landtsheer terug opgestart door Manu De Landtsheer, zoon van Adolf, onder de naam “Brouwerij Malheur“. Zo werd de familiale brouwtraditie in ere hersteld.

Bottle at a tasting @ Koelschtrinker's place. Smooth malty beginning. Caramel, dark chocolate, grain, roasted sweetish caramelly malts. Sticky rich, round and deep, caramel, moderate bitterness, very interesting but a bit dusty.

Sampled from 0.75 l bottle from 'Bierzwerg', cellared for three years. Clear, dark brown to black with a large, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty and a little yeasty-spicy aroma of caramel, milk chocolate, licorice and some nuts. Moderately sweet, malty, slightly roasty, a bit yeasty-spicy taste of caramel, milk chocolate, coffee and nuts, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, quite dry, roasty and a little yeasty-spicy finish. Medium body, quite effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Very nice, but not overly complex.

Bottle: Dark brown with a short tan head. Chocolate, caramel, dark fruit/berry scent. Sweet, lightly tangy chocolate malt, yeast flavour. Alcohol is noticeable, but comes on smoothly and warmly. Very nice.

Tap into a tulip showing moderately filtered pale good with a finger of clean white foam. The nose shows moderately intense notes of black tea and candied oranges. The palate is medium bodied and well carbonated. Moderately intense flavours of sweet Belgian yeast and light malt. Mild bitterness on the finish. Simple and easy.

Bottle from Belgoklubben 2013, thanks vjohans. Pours hazy yellow with a big head. Aroma of anisseed and licorice. Sweet, spicy but with a nice balance.
