Diamond Graff Cider from Outsider Brewing

Tap at Oedo. Big muscat forward nose with light blueberry and raspberry notes in the background. Very juice-like with very little beer or cider qualities. Below average carbonation and very light-bodied. Sweet on the palate and through the finish. The Counties Pale Ale from Outsider Brewing

Tap at multiple places around Tokyo. Amber color with 2 finger of off-white foam. Lemony zest on the nose with caramel malts a bit of honey. More of the same on the palate with good carbonation. Well-balanced but maybe a tad sweet. British-style pale with a slightly sweet finish. Maybe not my style, but not bad.

Tap at Osaka Castle. Dank Mosaic nose, honey, biscuits, golden malt. Clear dark golden color. Simple malt flavor, clean, with nice dank hoppiness and a peppery finish. Medium bitterness. Solid and nice drinking.

Outsider Spring Break Golden Ale 5% A beautifully clear gold. The aroma is herbal hoppiness and bready malts. Med-full bodied with a sharp clean finish. Not complex but a beautifully fresh clean tasting golden ale: bready, light fruits and a nice all around flavor that makes it dead easy to drink. A good beer to end the day with. I think I heard this is their 4th Anniversary beer as well which surprised me as I thought Outsider had been brewing longer than that~!

Outsider Shroom Porter 6.5% On tap at Beer Belly Brewpub. Looks like the brew gear has arrived and they will start brewing around the end of March starting with a House Ale. A cola brown with a doughy malty sweet chocolate aroma - it reminds me of many other J-craft porters but that’s not a bad thing. Wow, the texture really surprised me. This is thick and syrupy. A big chewy full mouthfeel. The taste is nutty, fudge, chocolate syrup, and molasses bread. The aroma really undersold the fullness of this, a meal in a glass.

Tap at CBM Koenji. Deep, chestnut brown with a creamy mushroom beige head that lingers. Smokey bacon nose with some dark chocolate, soy sauce and katsuo in the nose. Light bodied on the palate and hides the abv masterfully. More smoke and umami with some light shiitake notes as it warms. Earthy, smokey, umami-laden porter. Tap at Tadg’s. Nose is caramel, grass, a bit of orange. Dark amber color with orange tints, clear, with a low head. Very caramelly falvor, sweet, some chocolate and grass. Decent.

Tap at Beer Belly. Pretty deep red, clear, with lace. Nose is grape and a bit of caramel. Sweet grape flavor, strawberries, some creamy caramel. Great creamy body, low carbonations with a light tart edge, and a dry, lightly tart finish. Interesting.

Tap at Matilda. Hazy gold with a small white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Banana, pear, green apple and clove on the nose. Medium body and average carbonation with a slight grainy taste on the palate. Very similar to Hoegarden but a little more sweet. Finishes grainy with some cotton candy.
