Fujizakura Futoufukutsu 5% Zappa Single Hop Weizen Murky gold with a dense off-white foam. The initial hop aroma brought Citra to mind, the second had catpiss like elements. Soft smooth texture and medium bodied. The taste is a bit disjointed as most hopfen Weisse are. Aggressive Zappa hoppiness with white pepper and cloves. The finish has notes of banana as well. Alright.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Bigger head and more vibrant than the slightly older Futoufukutsu. Crisp citrus and tropical fruit nose, a bit mild, but nice. Creamy flavor of grapefruit, orange, light vanilla, banana. A bit of dank, resin and bitterness in the finish. These hops work well in this beer, but they are a bit too mild. Would like a little bit more punch.

Biottle from Yamaoka. Hazy dull yellow with lace. Funky nose, citrus, tropical fruit, a bit dank and harsh, with lots of grapefruit pith and some clove and banana. Flavor also gives a bit of funky harshness, over-ripe tropical fruit, citrus pith. Crisp, sharp body. Ok, but these hops don't really work in a hopfen weisse.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Pours a slightly hazy gold, not thick or muddy, with a tight, low head. Nice hop aroma citra is there, with spicy citrus, Mosaic too with the dank tropical notes. Backing malts seem rich. Bright hoppy flavor of citrus and tropical fruit, soft malts, yeah, lager character comes through, but it's mostly hops. Crisp and refreshing, though a bit on the heavy side. Enjoying it.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Grainy, slightly nutty, a bit doughy nose is right on. Light hops, spices, herbs, bit of lemon. Clear brilliant gold, effervescent. Tall, fine white head. Slightly sweet and doughy, lemony hops, dry, prickly finish with medium to strong bitterness. So, the first kolsch for Japan’s master of Weizens and German style lagers. It fits the style. A bit on the malty / doughy side, but not over the top. The dry finish and crisp bitterness pull it all back in. A very likable summer beer. Had this alongside the Almanac True Kolsch and this outshined it.

cloudy golden white color. Lovely banana creampie and citrus notes in the nose. Big upfront bitterness, smooth malty backbone with nice yeastiness in the middle. Interesting beer. Way way more bitter than a typical NE IPA. More like a wcipa. Much more of a wc weisse. Not sure I love it, as I think NE ipa works better but still pretty good stuff

Tap at Komachi. Cloudy medium golden. Fruity nose, dank, catpiss, grapefruit, wheat. flavor is wheatier and more like a weizen than the last one, nice fruity hops, grapefruit. Great summer refresher. that his the spot.

Bottle. Pours a hazy medium gold with a thick head. Nose is very hoppy, minerals and herbs, citrus zest, pith, and light tropical fruits, slightly resinous. The estery clove is there but not much banana, just a touch, with some wheat malt. Interesting hop flavor. They have definitely toned down the weizen character in this to make room for the hops. I am not sure i like it as much as the earlier Ne weizens, which were much more typical hopfenweisse. This is more like a wheated IPA, which everyone is doing. Nice, but Fujizakura is the master of the weizen, and I would prefer more of that character here.

Bottle thanks to KBL. Hazy, bright gold. Bright citrus nose, flowers, nice lager character. Grainy, malty, biscuits, full body, herbal and citrus hops. Quite nice.
