Description
Exit Brewing fell from the minds of two Melbournians, who decided to exit their corporate I.T. jobs and follow their passion for brewing beer. Now the family-owned business is led by founder and brewer, Grum Knight, and offers an iconic core range that keeps true to the founding principles of quality and honesty. Our story began with the release of a Saison farmhouse ale back in 2014. Since then, we have added a few more of our favourite styles including a bold yet balanced Pale Ale, the complex American-style AIBA trophy winning Amber Ale, the rich smooth AIBA trophy winning Milk Stout and a hoppy West Coast-style IPA. These year-round releases are complemented by our limited release program that pays homage to our original numbered batches. We’re a fully independent brewery located in Melbourne’s South East, with a small but mighty team of incredible people who continually strive to keep ‘craft’ at the heart of what we do.

Bottle. Ugly murky brown but has a fine white head. Aroma of grapefruit, herbal lemon, grass clippings, pine - nice if slightly subdued Kiwi/ US hops. Then they are not at all subdued in the taste - rippling grass and tropical fruit - gooseberries, melons - lesser citrus notes, menthol. Very light bodied for 6%, sweet and without much malt character. Maybe it’s visual suggestion, but despite this it’s not as clean as it might be. But then maybe the already fairly high bitterness would cut through too much.

Pours dark brown, almost black with with an off-white head.Complex aroma of roasted malt blending with some smoked notes and earthy cocoa.Similar flavours, with the smoked malt transferring through and joined by some soft spicy hops. An assertive roasted malt backbone rounds things out in a balanced finish.

(Bottle) Fantastic looking beer - very dark with huge tan head. Pleasant fairly subtle aroma of toasted malt with hints of coffee and wood smoke. Light body with plenty of carbonation. Taste is gently sweet with some subtle balancing dark roast notes. Maybe a hint of red berries and raisins. A little quite pleasant black coffee / dark chocolate bitterness in the finish. Quite subtle, but pleasant.

Bottle. Just hazy gold with a modest white head. Aroma of melons, grass, passionfruit, slightly funky lemons, medium sugars. Light bodied, medium carbonation. Lots of fruit, hay, some funky herbal citrus notes. finish is not quite dry with moderate bitterness, white pepper. I didn’t much like #001 (which this label says was hopped with Sorachi Ace) but this one (Nelson Sauvin) is much more my sort of thing.

330ml bottle. Pours pale amber. Grassy floral nose, reminding me of big tasty IPAs I’ve had before. Taste is ok but not impressive, a bit too much on the bitter side, not much else, nothing of interest.

Bottle. Slightly hazy amber with a light beige head. Toasty aroma with oranges, flowers and spices. Fairly light bodied, soft and alive in the mouth. Not all that sweet but some toasted and bread crusts, oranges, grapefruit, a little pepper. Quite firm bitterness. I like the way the hops don’t have to struggle out from behind the malt. Straightforward, fresh, well made.
