Description
Jason Harris and Craig Basford decided they were going to do more than just brew the beers they’d been concocting in their man shed for years: they wanted to bring others along with them. So, more than a decade after they’d started making beer together in a rented farmer’s shed in the Barossa, when Big Shed Brewing Concern became a reality it came with an invitation to their peers: if you’re looking for somewhere to brew, we’ve got the space for you.

From a 375ml can on 12/10/2023. Pours a hazy medium golden with a biggish bright white head. The nose features citrus and stonefruit with some light grassy notes. Tastes of orange, apricot and peach, with a tangy, lightly spicy bitterness which has shades of their Boozy Fruit, though more subtle. Not as sweet and a touch more bitter than a typical oat cream, but that doesn't impact on the enjoyment. Pillowy mouthfeel with moderate to average carbonation. An impressive little beer.

From 375ml can on 5/10/2023. Pours dull dark golden with no head. The aroma certainly lives up to the label with sharp fruit and custard notes. Doesn't let the team down on the sip either - sharp tangy fruit with some custardy sweetness, finishing moderately tart at the back. Has a lightly creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. I continue bemoan the lack of good pastry sours being released by Oz brewers but this is actually pretty tasty. Could stand to be a touch more dessertish, but it's genuinely enjoyable.

Can. Amber with a cm of white head. Aroma of a little grapefruit, crusty bread. 7- Light bodied, highish carbonation. Tastes as it smells - clean, simple. Moderate bitterness. Pleasant enough.

Can 37.5cl @home poured into an English pint glass. Strong chocolate and vanilla nose. Pitch black, fair creamy tan head, half-way lasting, bit adhesive lacing. Aroma roasted and sweet malts, vanilla, maple syrup, caramel fudge, marshmellows, chocolate. Taste medium sweet and light bitter, malty, chocolate, vanilla, maple syrup, toffee. Retronasal roast and vanilla. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, lingering sweetbitter aftertaste, malty, roasty notes, vanilla touch, thinner and less sweet than expected which makes it quite quaffable for me, overall very nice.

(Can) Pours opaque amber, looking like fruit juice, with very short lived head. Pleasant aroma dominated by mango with an odd funky cheesy hint. Medium body with plenty of bright carbonation. Taste is predominantly sour, with mango notes and something slightly funky in the background. Very refreshing.

Can from Winerack at home. Hazy peachy amber pour with fine white head. Aroma is strong candy peach and candy lemon and candy mango, with some milkshake and bubblegum. Hard to believe there aren’t any other adjuncts? Taste is similar but less sharp, more smooth melon tropical peach flavors. Milkshake feel from lactose I’m guessing. Some prickly bitterness on the finish. Palate is super smooth but with decent carbonation. Lasting bitter tingle. Fruitiness is not as overwhelming on taste as aroma. Impressive. The two beers I’ve had from Big Shed are both really good!
