From bottle. Pours black as night with minimal head. Thinner mouthfeel than expected. Roasty malt dominant. Classic stout, but not spectacular.

Tap at the Alehouse Project, Melbourne. Poured a very slightly hazy straw colour with a thin white head. The aroma is grainy malt, nettle, pine. The flavour is moderate bitter with a fresh, crisp, grainy, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Bottle. Very dark brown with just under an inch of light tan head. Aroma of mocha, roasted malt, spiced buns. Barely medium bodied, smooth textured with moderate carbonation. The roasted flavours are curious - there’s not that much roast, but it seems very heavily roasted and a bit acrid. But it works OK with the substantial sweetness and means the end seems bitter mainly through the roasted malt. Dryish there with some licorice. Pretty good, lots of personality.
