Gizmo Brew Works launched into the public sphere in April of 2013. Gizmo represents the thinkers, tinkerers, and inventors who make up RTP and the Umstead Industrial Park which we call home.
At its inception, Gizmo Brew Works inherited a 2 barrel brewhouse, making it one of the smallest production breweries in North Carolina. Strong and feisty for its size, Gizmo surged forth into the competitive beer market. As Gizmo’s reputation grows, so does its size. In 2015 new infrastructure boosted its growth with larger tanks and a new 7 bbl brewhouse. Now in 2019 we set forth on an expansion to quadruple our brewing capacity as well as opening our first satellite taproom in Chapel Hill. In addition to small-batch taproom only releases, thirsty souls can find our beer in some of the finest retail shops and restaurants/bars throughout North Carolina. We of Gizmo Brew Works hold ourselves to high standards. We self-distribute our craft, straight from our brewery to our customers, ensuring the absolute freshest beer possible.
Inquisitive drinkers can drop by the taproom to sample our wares. We offer tours every Saturday at 4pm and most weekends feature food trucks and live music.

Bottle 65 cl. 5.7% according to my bottle. Pours golden with a lively, white head. Subtle coffee aroma blending in with fruity hops. Light body, lightly fruity, again some "green" coffee notes and a somewhat bitter finish. Unusual but quite enjoyable. 240915

Bottle labeled Sex Viking during RBWG. Pours a cloudy brown with medium tan head. The aroma is roasted malt and caramel. Medium mouth with weird sour malt flavor, not sure if this was an infection or what but did not taste like a dunkel.

750 mL swingtop bottle from Hops & Grapes, Hickory. I should say, ostentatious swingtop bottle. This is an old bottle under the Roth Foe Hammer label. Bottle #290, dated 11/22/11. Not too excited to try this considering my past poor experiences with this brewery. I’m not alone either, as this has gone to at least two tastings and come back un-opened. Well, here goes. Pours a dark brown color with red highlights. Thin frothy tan head that quickly fades. Aroma of toffee, citrus, stone fruits, yeast, funk. Yep, funk. The taste is toffee, earth, plum, nutty notes, booze, mild funk. Medium bodied, slightly boozy. Meh.

Bomber (Roth) from Total Wine Huntersville, NC. Pours a glass of 100% head. Uh oh! Eventually a dark brown beer appears, with a fizzy dark brown head. Aroma of strong green apple, chocolate, roasted malts, mild spice. The taste is chocolate, heavy cinnamon, earth, green apple and an astringent chemical note. Thin-medium bodied. I think I will be able to choke this down, but it’s over-spiced, so it would be unpleasant even without the off notes.

Bottle at the hotel lobby. Pours cloudy amber with fine creamy tan head. Tangy malt and wheat nose. Light sweet, river water. Tastes like watery plastic, actually. Not good, light bodied with fine carbonation. Poor finish. No good, plastic.

This opened with plenty of Pfft! but did not prepare me for the total head of white foam that this produced. Took ages to settle down into beer. Way over carbonated. Pale yellow and very clear. Could be a Pilsner. It’s taking a while to get some aroma to make it’s way through the remnants of the head; it is reminiscent of how long it takes for detergent foam to fall. Floral aroma that is very faint. Faint urinal cake. The flavor is very lightly bitter, somne dryness and a touch of sourness; probably carbonic acid from the excessive carbonation. But all in all not much here. Don’t waste $4.99 on a 22 of this.

Bottle. Caramel malt, dusty vanilla, acidic fruity aroma. Hazy bright amber with a huge ivory head. Sour toasted grain flavor with a weird spicy bitter finish. Not like any dunkel I’ve ever tried. Light body.
