Description
Rutland Beer Works is a 15-barrel brewery in the heart of Rutland, Vermont. We started brewing at our downtown location at 41 Center Street, serving primarily on location at Hop’n Moose Pub with limited distribution in Vermont. Since expanding to a larger production facility at 136 Granger Street, we still have a full line-up of beers available at the Hop’n Moose Pub. With the increased production, Rutland Beer Works beer is available throughout the state in cans and on tap.

Visit us at the Hop’n Moose Pub and have a pint with a wood-fired pizza, sandwich, or burger. While you’re there be sure to check out the 7-barrel copper brewhouse up front and get fresh cans and growler fills to go!

On tap at Hop n Moose.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color. A one finger white to off white foamy head dissipated lightly. Slight amount of rimmed foamy lacing is left in rings.
The smell had a sweet to roasty coffee and cocoa bean arranging itself in between some sweet grainy oatmeal flavors.
The taste was a nice balance between the sweet and the roasty portions of the previously mentioned flavors. Lingering roasty / sweet aftertaste. Wet sweet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. Pretty good sessionable feel to it. Carbonation felt good.
Overall, while the state of Vermont isn’t exactly known for the best stouts in the USA, Hop n Moose makes that push to put up a really nice stout to possibly turn heads in Vermont’s direction. I know I would definitely have this again.

Hop n' Moose Head Doctor from Rutland Beer Works

On tap at the brewpub.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color. Small thin white head. Very little lacing.
The smell took in a huge amount of sweet and bitter grapefruit pulp and rind, some slight extra citrus and then some pine underneath. Light amount of piney hops blend in underneath.
The taste was a nice balance between the grapefruit, citrus and pine. Semi-sweet lemon to grapefruit aftertaste. Quick sweet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body. Somewhat sessionable. Nicely carbonated.
Overall, what a really nice AIPA, I’d definitely have again.
