Poured into a tulip, the appearance was a soft golden yellow color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that fell off at a decent pace. Sly messy lace.
The aroma had some lemon pulp and rind, light leather, earthiness, grassiness, some banana, vinous must, light funk and a little bit of floral hop tones.
The flavor was moderately sweet with an ample amount of funk, earthiness and grassiness. Subtle white pepper slid in underneath. Aftertaste was funky and grassy. Finish was the same.
The palate was almost medium bodied with a fairly good sessionable sort of feel to it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt fine.
Overall, pretty good saison, if you like the funkier ones.

Pours hazy straw into a shaker. Bright white head with good retention recedes to hug rim. Melon and tropical fruit aromas. Soft and a little thin with hay and guava front to back and into the dry gritty finish. Nice for abv.

Draught at Five Horse Tavern, Davis, 4/20/17.
Moderately hazy, not soupy, brassy-golden, somewhat drab with a very light copper tint. Frothy/messy, white head atop is medium-sized and shows moderate retention.
Softly juicy hops mix with all sorts of fun grain/cereal notes behind them. I don’t think you get the potatoes in the nose, though there is a bit of vegetal character which works just fine with the hops. Bright lemon juice, mango and pineapple show neither twang nor resin and it’s clean and free of alcohol.
The flavor is where it gets fun, with actual potato-like notes that are very earthy, starchy, highly mineral-laden and are joined by a light cereal-and-biscuit character from the wheat. The juicy, bright, lightly bitter hops balance perfectly while low but tight carbonation creates a soft texture in concert with the oats (and potato?). Really unusual, but enjoyable flavors abound and the hops are done wonderfully. Great stuff.

Flavor is a direct reflection of the aroma. Pretty sweet all the way through. For a impy Porter the body is ok. Pretty decent.

Tall-boy from AFH. light brown and a 1 finger head. Looks quite light for an imperial stout. light smokey aroma, a bit of charcoal and milk chocolate and coconut. Really soft, light mouthfeel. coconut, vanilla, cocoa flavor.

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a super dark brown color almost black in color with a good two finger off white to tan foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Big clingy well ringed foamy lace.
The aroma had a soft sweet espresso to coffee bean rich roastiness flowing evenly over some vanilla nibs. Light ash, and some wood. Roasty chocolate nibs at the end.
The flavor blends the sweet to the roast. The vanilla and espresso meld to meet the roast, fully flavored and touching down upon the aftertaste well balanced. Glides right on into the finish very nicely.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fair sessionability about it. Good carbonation. ABV seemed just a tad under than what was projected by the brewer.
Overall, if this the blend of the Norweald and another one of their stouts, well, it definitely smoothed out Norweald extremely nice as the ruggedness from that beer seemed barely there in this one.

Can from Hopduvel, Ghent. Hazy golden with a lasting white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and moderate hoppy - citrus. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. Oily. 250317

The aroma had some burnt toast bold and up front with some thick roasted malty tones and then coffee grounds and a delicate cocoa powder. Light breadiness. Some ash/charcoal.
The flavor yields to the burnt toast and brings in the roasty malty tones in a semi-sticky sort of low-riding sweet fashion. Ash/charcoal again. Rugged roasty aftertaste with a semi-chalky dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat a tad lighter in body than expected for what I hoped would be a really nice American stout. Good carbonation. ABV felt right.
Overall, an American stout with a bolder burnt toastiness to it than expected. Nothing special, and here I was all excited about them being here in Vermont, hmmmm....
