In 2014, Geoff Seideman and his wife Charmayne opened Honolulu Beerworks, a neighborhood craft brewery in the heart of Kaka'ako. From the beginning they focused on using unique and locally sourced ingredients in the brewing process. Honolulu Beerworks now has an experimental and robust barrel aging program.

Enjoyed on tap as part of a sampler at Honolulu Beerworks in Honolulu, HI. I didn’t take tasting notes for this one, but remember this being sweet and lightly tart with the typical saison yeast notes. It was just OK, not my favorite of the sampler.

Enjoyed on tap as part of a sampler at Honolulu Beerworks in Honolulu, HI. I didn’t take tasting notes for this one, but remember this being the most quintessential Hawaiian brew that I’ve had. Notes were strong in mango, tropical fruit, and papaya with a light bitter aftertaste. It took me quite a while to warm up to this one, and I didn’t like it at first, but I adapted and it turned out to be pretty good.

I didn’t take tasting notes for this one, but remember this as pretty good, notes of oak, wood, vanilla, with a malty backbone. The barrel definitely compliments and doesn’t dominate, but is a bit faint when compared against other barrel aged brews I’ve had. Still pretty good though.

I didn’t take tasting notes for this one, but remember this being a nice moderate sweet stout with great chocolate and lactose notes. Out of the six samples I had, I think I liked this one the best but was also a bit straight forward. Would recommend though.

Light golden color. Sweet malty nose with lots of honey and orange peel notes. The mouth is mildly sweet. I wouldn’t consider this a saison, like so many other American saisons, but it is a nice light dry ale with some interesting fruit and honey character.

pitch black color. White head. Good roasted malts and licorice nose. Big full body good roastiness with licorice. Excellent.
