Description
As of 5/24/25 Wasatch Brewery beers will no longer be brewed in Utah. They will be brewed in the Monster Brewing network.

“Where’s the beer? Where are the breweries?” Those were among the first thoughts Greg Schirf had after moving to Utah from Milwaukee in the early 80’s. Incredibly, drinking and brewing were all but forbidden. Greg took matters into his own hands and did what any self-respecting midwesterner would do: He started a brewery. Wasatch was the very first brewery in Utah – and one of the first craft brewers in all of the U.S. – brewing award-winning brews since 1986.

In 1988, Greg Schirf proposed another bill to the Utah Legislature making brewpubs legal in Utah and opened the first brewpub at the top of historic Main Street in the resort town of Park City. Wasatch continues to misbehave, turning out naughty beer after naughty beer year after year.

At Cowboy’s Smokehouse, Panguitch. Pours hazy amber with a lasting, foamy, off-white head. The light aroma contains caramel, nuts, malt and hops. It tastes medium sweet and very light bitter with a short finish. Light body, slick/watery texture, soft carbonation. Lacking some taste evolution...

On tap at Cafe Diablo in Torrey, UT. Pours clear gold, with a big, foamy, off-white head and excellent lacing. Light cream on the aroma, with some big, vegetal pepper notes. Some faint notes of hay and caramel. Fairly sweet up front, with a very mild bitterness that lends a bit of balance. Smooth, relatively mild, spicy heat through the finish, but it doesn’t burn nor linger, which is nice. Light body, smooth, lightly bubbly, and clean. This is a solid and fun beer. Jalapeno isn’t my favorite flavor, but they pull it off pretty well.

Poured into a mug, the appearance was a brown color with a finger’s worth of white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Mild stringy lace.
The aroma was nutty, caramel, chocolatey, and a touch of honey. Subtle crisp spicy hops at the end.
The flavor blends the sweet to the nuttiness and shapes in some of the spiciness to round it all out. Nicely blended aftertaste of all of the previously mentioned tastes. Smooth nutty finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a good sessionability about it. Good carbonation and the ABV felt fine.
Overall, pretty good brown ale, thanks Steve.

From a bottle purchased at Utah State liquor store. Pours a clear dark mahogany with a creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate. Flavors of leather and tobacco. Slightly sweet overall with a smooth finish. Much better than the non-nitro version.
