Draft at Great Nebraska Beer Fest courtesy of HuskerTan, thanks! Clear dark brown color, almost flat. Aroma of sour coffee. Taste has a deep sourness that does not complement the roast. Unlike any porter I’ve ever had.

Bottle shared at my pre-wedding bash with some other RB nerds. Thanks to pepsican for sending this bronus! Pours a murky dark brown head with a brown head. Some veggies (tomatoes, olives) in the nose but not overpowering. Candy sugar / caramel like sweetness and flavor. Moderately sour. Quite herbal / woody and funky. Carbonation was a little weak after the pour. Not as good as some CIB offerings.

On tap @ the brewery in Carson, Iowa with Uncle Chris and Alex Carlton. Murky reddish brown appearance with a thin brown head. Aroma has cherries, light tannins, wood, whiskey, funk, hint of cheese. Moderately sour. Some vinegar / acetic acid. Maybe a little lactic acid. Not crazy sour. Good flavor that like a cherry whiskey like a whiskey sour. Cherry notes are nice and not overly powerful. The best CIB beer to date bar none.

On tap at tap room in Carson, Iowa with Uncle Chris and Alex Carlton. It is my understanding that this is the younger, non-soured version of Morning Wood. Kind of murky brown appearance with a brown head. A little bit of coffe in the aroma along with light smoke and chocolate. Hint of acidity. Interesting play between chocolate and coffee again in the flavor. Not super interesting but a pretty easy drinker. Maybe a good starting point for those new to CIB that aren’t as into high boost sours.

Bottle @ the tap room, shared with Alex Carlton. A little murky, orangish appearance with a big, bubbly, tan head. Aroma has fun, hint of cheese, lemon, strawberries. A little bit of rubber in the flavor, presumably from the yeast/bacteria blend. Refreshing and high boost. Plenty of fruit. One of the better releases to date at CIB. I drank probably 2/3 of the bottle while chatting up Alex. Uncle Chris accidentally blended this with Mocha Porter and the three of us found it to be a happy accident. Cleaner than some of the early releases.

Bottle at RBWG ’15 Grand Tasting @ Coppertail, thanks to whomever shared this one, 21/02/15. Murky chestnut brown with a big old beige head. Nose is toffee, dark malt, light musty notes, fruits. Taste comprises dark fruit, grain, toffee, earthy. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok Belgian device but not really picking up tripel stylee !?!

Bottle shared during the RBWG 2015 Grand Tasting. What a treat, CIB! Pours soupy orange with a big, frothy beige crown. Lightly metallic on the nose, with suggestions of piney hops. Big sweet flavor with some molasses, leaves, brown sugar. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sugary finish with more piney hops, more caramel and brown sugar, molasses. Odd, and not very drinkable.

rbwg2015. Bottle pours with a murky brown body that supports a tan head. The aroma offers up brown sugar, apple blended with molasses and sticky dates. The taste has an interesting blend of apples, dates and molasses with odd earthy thick tartness vegetable along the edges. Odd. This doesn’t even try to come together into something palatable but instead stands by itself out in an empty field of rotting vegetables.
