Description
CIB Brewery is a small batch, production-only nano brewery located in Carson, Iowa. We are a farmhouse style brewery. This means all of our beers are fermented using proprietary yeast blends including Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus, and other wild yeasts. The end result of this brewing process is that all of our ales will be somewhat sweet and tart on the palate and be uniquely flavorful. All of our wild yeasts are harvested and cultured in the brewery in Carson, IA.

Bottle forced upon us but Prufrock, or I should say, bottle nicely gotten for me to tick by Chris. Just like expected, its poorly made high octane autolysis with cherry hints on the nose. The flavor is less autolysis and actually some decent sourness and a slightly fresh cherry finish. If the beer was all like the very end of the flavor that would be da bomb. Thanks again Chris.

Bottle pour split at a tasting event. Pours a dark ruby red with a thin patchy head. Bit of a dark fruit aroma. Decently sour right away. Overly sweet cherry flavor with an almost sweet wine like finish. Not what I expected, but definitely doesn’t deserve the hate it is getting. Decent sour beer.

Bottle @ Stephen’s whale slaying. Thanks to &e. #shelfie. Pours a murky orangish brown appearance with a very thick brown head. Slight gusher. It has their typical house culture in the nose- unfaked funk, olives, Spaghetti O’s, and tomato paste. Some caramel and toffee in the flavor. Heavy carbonation. Some veggies, olives, and birthday cake. Finishes on the sweet and boozy side. Let me tell you this, you fucken turkeys. No hint of faked funk or any bottle from shelf aroma. Jesus Christ, I am fucken wasted.

Bottle at weekly tasting. Requested by Nick. Pours brown tan head. Nose/taste of sour coffee, sour coffee grounds. Not much else. Some cocoa. Lighter medium body. Not as awful as the ratings but certainly not good.

Bottle at End of History tasting. Pours purplish amber. Nose is straight up tomato paste. Tastes like some malt, lively yeast, fruit, and spaghetti o’s. Really bizarrely bad.

A "special" tapping at the Great Nebraska Beer Festival. Aroma has almost no coffee with some moderate nut and toast character and a hint of roast. Medium light acetic character with some toffee and caramel. Some raisin and dried fruit esters. Pours a murky brown with a small, thin tan head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges. It looked like muddy water after a rain storm. Flavor is like the aroma but with a more pronounced acidic character. Light roast and chocolate notes but much more nuts, caramel, toffee and toasted bread than chocolate and roast. Some dried fruit notes of cherries, berries and raisins. I’m still not sure where the coffee is in this beer. Medium light bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied and watery but thick at the same time with low carbonation. Medium astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall another really bad beer from CIB. I have no idea why this was listed as a Special tapping in the program. There was no coffee character and it tasted rather infected. Really weird beer.

On tap at Great Nebraska Beer Festival - Rated from notes. Aroma is burnt rubber and lots of plastic with some hints of strawberries. Very phenolic in a bad way with faint acidity and citrus. Light malt character. Pours a cloudy copper brown with a thick tan head that exhibits good retention. Flavor has a low, acetic acidity with some vinegar character and a hint of citrus. Light strawberry notes with a lot of plastic, but it didn’t have the burnt rubber character that the aroma had. Light malt character. Mouthfeel has a medium light body with medium, creamy carbonation. Low but present astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall this is what I picture licking a tire that just drove through a strawberry field would taste like if you were to light it on fire fora bit first. Everything I hoped for and more from this brewery with quite the reputation on RB.
