Description
Oxbow is a small farmhouse brewery located in rural Newcastle, Maine. The brewery is nestled in an enchanted forest amongst rolling farmlands and winding tidal rivers, of which the ebb and flow provide a constant reminder that the coast is near.
The name Oxbow is inspired by the bends in these rivers, the Dyer in particular, which features stunning horseshoe-shaped oxbows where the river covers tremendous ground to travel what could otherwise be a very short linear distance. We employ a similar approach when crafting our beers, taking months or years to create a beverage that is commonly produced in a matter of days.

A hazed brown saison with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a nice chocolate malt with light Brett and woody notes, light milky. In mouth, a smooth herbal chocolate with light lactic points, light Brett, smooth. On tap at Lion’s Pride, July 31, 2012.

Draft. 10 oz. short pour @ When Pigs Fly. Hazy gold color with amber hues. Thick, dense head with great retention. Nose is citrus hops with a Belgian yeast element. Yeast and pale malt with a nice herbal / grassy hop bite in the backend. Mouthfeel is lively with a drying effect. Medium body. It’s refreshing, real fresh and clean tasting.

Draft @ Jimmy the Greek’s. O.O.B, ME. Dark black, small tan head, mild lace. Carbonation is real low. Now and flavor is real interesting nose and flavor. Roasted barley, wheat, charred malt. A black Saison is a differant kind of style. I find’t pick up and Belgian yeast, the Malta and wheat is more evident then anything else. To me it tasted more like a wheat based porter. Slightly linger roast finish. Tasty brew that blurrs the line of definition. Intresting recipe.

Meridian Pint, DC tap ($6): Pours a hazy orange colour with a frothy white head. Aroma is of piny hops, pepper, spice, and funky saison yeast. Taste is pretty much along the same lines. This is very full-flavoured, with just the right amount of hop bitterness. Slight aftertaste is present. Loads of spice present. Nice mouth feel. This was a pretty dope beer.
