Description
Located in a former roadside speakeasy on US Route 50 heading west into the city of Cincinnati, Fifty West Brewing Company first opened its doors in November of 2012. Since then, one thing has remained the same. Every time you have a Fifty West beer, you know it was handmade in small batches with a focus on the four virtues we hold closest to our hearts: craftsmanship, tradition, innovation, and patience.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours a clear copper-amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Short strings of lacing. Citrus, hops and malt in the nose. Light to medium body with flavors of resiny hops, citrus and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a citrusy hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Sample at the brewpub. This brew pours a slightly hazy orange color with a medium white head that dissipates steadily to a film. Stringy lacing.Aroma of citrus, malt and vanilla. Medium body with flavors of orange peel, vanilla, malt and roasted nuts, The finish is fruity with a citrus and vanilla aftertaste. Decent overall.

Sample at Daily Growler Powell. The beer pours a hazy straw color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of banana, yeast and spice. Light-bodied with flavors of grassy wheat, coriander and banana. The finish is wheaty with a short fruity aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a dark amber color with a large fluffy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was tart lemon and grapefruit. The flavor was tart and bitter with notes of lemon, orange, grapefruit, toffee and honey. Medium length finish. Medium body. Decent.

Sample at Daily Growler Powell during the "Cupzilla Korean BBQ & Double IPA Showcase" on 04/01/2016. Clear bright golden color with a medium white head that evaporates steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of tropical fruit,. hops and malt. Medium body with flavors of grapefruit. grassy hops and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a citrusy hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Sample at Daily Growler Powell during the "Cupzilla Korean BBQ & Double IPA Showcase" on 04/01/2016. Brown-black color with a medium foamy tan head that dissipates steadily to a film. Partial rings of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and cherry. Medium-bodied with flavors of roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate and mildly tart cherry. The finish is chocolatey up front with a subtle cherry aftertaste. Captures the essence of the treat pretty well, solid beer overall.

Medium body with flavors of caramel malt, earthy hops, fruit and a bit of wood. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

750ml bottle pours a murky black with some cloudy, brown head. Nose has chocolate, booze, a little molasses, toast, caramel, some raisin. Flavor follows, malt, toast, chocolate, vanilla, booze, molasses, brown sugar. Hides the barreling well. Full bodied and sticky on the finish.

Good balance and good beer. Lots of roast and some milk chocolate. Pours black with good initial head. Syrupy pour but still drinks well. Bittersweet finish. Bottle from nimbleprop.

Bottle courtesy of nimbleprop, thanks! Opaque dark maroon brown color. Aroma has vanilla, chocolate, butterscotch. Nice.
