Description
Located in a former roadside speakeasy on US Route 50 heading west into the city of Cincinnati, Fifty West Brewing Company first opened its doors in November of 2012. Since then, one thing has remained the same. Every time you have a Fifty West beer, you know it was handmade in small batches with a focus on the four virtues we hold closest to our hearts: craftsmanship, tradition, innovation, and patience.

Draft. A- Black coffee. A- Black color, dark liquid, light brown head. T- Coffee, cocoa. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, roasty finish. O- A lovely coffee brew with no frills added. Said it was on nitro but the nitro was minimal or not working because I don't like nitro and this beer had a solid head and wasn't creamy and watery tasting at all. Maybe the best of all the beers here. Well done and a solid rounded coffee stout.

Draft. A- Malty, bready, spices. A- Dark amber red color, clear liquid, beige head. T- Caramel, malty, bread dough, spices. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Doesn't taste very big for a barleywine. Loads of caramel and malty bread with a touch of a nutmeg like spice. Okay, but not very complex. Overhyped I would say. Would like to try the BA version.

Draft. A- Bland. A- Mahogany color, clear liquid, beige head. T- Caramel, malty, watery. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bland finish. O- Really weak and flavorless. Expect a big rich complex brew when I have a scotch ale. The aroma was not even there but that may be due to the moldy damp smell of the brewpub. Okay at best. Needed a lot of refining.

Draft. A- Bland. A- Yellow color, clear liquid, white head. T- Cream, vanilla. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, bland finish. O- I've been spoiled by Infusions's Vanilla Bean Blonde and variations so this Ice Cream ale disappointed right away. Surprised it is an amber ale and not a blonde. No pecans and not a lot of anything really. Some vanilla, but otherwise really boring and flavorless.

Draft. A- Bland, straw. A- Gold color, clear liquid, white head. T- Mint, thyme, subtle orange. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Smells like a boring old kolsch but the flavor is where it counts. The thyme certainly comes across but the citrus is pretty muted still. Really like this concept and hope it's one they really perfect.

Draft. A- Citrus, malty, hoppy. A- Gold color, clear liquid, white head. T- Citrus, bitter, malty, bready. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, bitter finish. O- Started out more citrus and sweet and finished on a malty and bitter note. Doesn't feel 9% but it's a stand on it's own beer for sure.

16.1 oz bottle...that's a weird size. Aroma is Smarties, generic beer, grain, lemon peel, vanilla, Buddha's Giant Slimy Dick. Pours slightly hazy golden with a small white head with good retention. Taste is lightly tart (4/10 on a sour scale), very dry, peppery, some light barnyard funk. Very foamy, near Champagne-level carbonation. It's a good, well-made beer, but it's not doing much for me at the moment. That doesn't mean I don't respect it, though.
