Description
It was in 1973 that the adventure of the "Au Baron" brewery began. Alain Bailleux then purchased the last bistro in the village there. There he meets Danielle who will become his wife. Together, they embark on small catering. Later, Alain and his father, retired master brewer, challenge each other; create a craft brewery. This will be done on June 8, 1989 when Gussignies inaugurated the village brewery with Saint-Médard, a beer inspired by the farm-breweries of yesteryear. For a few years now, Florence and Xavier have taken over the reins of the family business and continue to make the Baron prosper by adding a local store where you can buy beers and products from local producers.

Bottle sample @ La Sambre & Friends Saison & Farmhouse Festival 2022 shared with Tderoeck.

Made better by a nice dessert. A bit bitter, but still quite a nice beer. Fruit is mild and nice. La fine mousse

Bottled 750ml (KSM Kampus)
Golden colour, small white head. Typical Biere de Garde earthy hoppyness in the nose, some grain and grass. Light-bodied. Crisp, hoppy, pale malty, grass, earthy hops, refreshing flavour. Not much honey in here. Well-brewed.

75cl Fles, dank Harmen!

Dark golden to light orange with a bit of haziness, hazier on second pour with a bit of sediment too. A rather big frothy white head shows good enough retention and very nice lacing. Aroma: surprisingly subdued, but pretty nice: hay and grainy malt base, a hint of almost dusty/barnyardish earthiness, fruity notes of pear and peach, grassy/herbal and slightly flowery hoppiness, hints of spiciness. Taste notes follow the aroma closely, now with more brightness/vividness. It's a cleanly defined taste, but it also shows a light rustic touch. Medium sweetness and bitterness, with a balanced mouth and a finish and aftertaste that feels a bit on the sweet side (juicy fruitiness), but in a rather dry/clean way. Medium body with quite high carbonation (about average for a saison), resulting in a very easy but nicely lively mouthfeel. A very good example of the saison style.
