Description
It was in 1973 that the adventure of the "Au Baron" brewery began. Alain Bailleux then purchased the last bistro in the village there. There he meets Danielle who will become his wife. Together, they embark on small catering. Later, Alain and his father, retired master brewer, challenge each other; create a craft brewery. This will be done on June 8, 1989 when Gussignies inaugurated the village brewery with Saint-Médard, a beer inspired by the farm-breweries of yesteryear. For a few years now, Florence and Xavier have taken over the reins of the family business and continue to make the Baron prosper by adding a local store where you can buy beers and products from local producers.

Bottle at home. Has a slightly hazy straw color with a small off-white head. Fresh aroma of lemon, pale malt, Belgian yeast and dry head. Flavor of spices, alcohol and perfume. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body, and a light bitterness. A fresh beer but has a bit unbalanced taste. Decent.

Hazy gold 1 finger head. Sticky head. Great malt quality aroma wheat grist, honey, oats and European chewy pine hops. Excellent mouthfeel. Crisp, honey sweetness. Malts and hops linger. Had a blaugies yeast profile. The oat quality is great. Overall, a solid beer

Mycket gott!

750ml bottle from Wine Club. Bought on Nolen’s recommendation and more proof that we should listen to him. Cork almost came out on its own when the cage was removed, but surprisingly not a gusher. Pour is clear golden, large creamy white head that dissipates slowly leaving nice lacing. Aroma is grains, herbal, very floral, honey biscuit, some dust. Flavor is light sweet, light bitter, floral and biscuit malts, light honey note, fairly fruity. Medium body, soft carbonation. This beer really grows on you with time. Highly enjoyable.

750ml bottle. Slightl cloudy, golden colour with average, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Slightly grainy and strawy aroma with a cautious fruity touch, hints of apricot, peach and some peppery yeast spiciness. Taste is mellow fruity, notes of apricot, mirabelle and peach, minimally dry, dusty, yeasty overtones. Soft, gentle, nice.

Typical, commissioned bière de garde that won a bronze medal on a contest for French regional products. Upon opening the bottle, I was confronted with one of the most serious cases of gushing I’ve ever seen - it kept litterally flowing for minutes. After having managed to catch some beer in my tulip tasting glass, the foam staid firm and rocky for a long time. The beer itself had a cloudy ochre blonde colour and an aroma of green apple, dried apricot, pineapple, melon, lemon peel, lavender, soap, bark, ginger... Soft grainy taste, bit neutral at first, gentle honeyish malt sweetness, subtle fruitiness, spicy yeast accents becoming more bready towards the end and finishing in a late, leafy hop bitterness, thought the long dry ending also has to do with the strong carbonation, related to the gushing phenomenon. Not the best bière de garde I ever had, but the spectacular gushing did create some excitement, at least...
