Description
It was in 1973 that the adventure of the "Au Baron" brewery began. Alain Bailleux then purchased the last bistro in the village there. There he meets Danielle who will become his wife. Together, they embark on small catering. Later, Alain and his father, retired master brewer, challenge each other; create a craft brewery. This will be done on June 8, 1989 when Gussignies inaugurated the village brewery with Saint-Médard, a beer inspired by the farm-breweries of yesteryear. For a few years now, Florence and Xavier have taken over the reins of the family business and continue to make the Baron prosper by adding a local store where you can buy beers and products from local producers.

750 c&c from Pangaea Bottle Shop. Pours hazy light orange/gold with a slight white head. Aroma of lemon, yeast, light barnyard. And some floral. Almost suggests radler? Nah! Fizzy, med body. Flavor is earthy, yeasty, citrus and probably a couple other things. Gets more earthy and barnyard with time, but is only barely sour. Kind of like a earthy Berliner Weisse? Anyway it’s difficult to describe, but it’s very tasty and certainly fits the style.

Bottled at the Hill Farmstead Festival of Farmhouse Ales. Nice deep gold. Very estery nose with peaches, a little bit of melon, banana, and clove. Really like stewed fruit. Sweet flavor, lightly aged, honey, stewed peaches. Pretty crisp and light. Nice, maybe a little old, not really that exciting.

bottle from Village de la Bière Strasbourg. Amber-orange colour, cloudy, mid-sized off-white head. Ripe fruit, malty with a pleasant sweetness and some shy hopy in the finish that add a herbal touch.

I picked this up in Paris, October, 2011 at La Cave a Bulles. Cloudy orange. Dry with yeast, it is not sweetened. Some grain, and a light flower quality. Smooth palate. I know the scores are not great but I liked it. It has some complexity and good flavor.

Bottle: unclear, amber coloured, stable yellowish foamy layer, clumps visible, vinous fruity nose, dried berries and toasted malt underneath; moderately sweetish-bitter flavourwith a light acidity, quite soft, medium to full bodied; the finish, dominated by yeast and fruits , reminds You a bit of a sour ale. Nice brew…

(bottle, 75cl) Hazy, dark amber colour with loads of floaties and a tanned medium-sized foamy head. Slightly yeasty, fruit-accented and delicately vinous aroma with notes of dark and red berries on a mildly toast-malty background. Slightly sweet flavour with a tinge of sourness, only light to medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Delicately toasty malty base with mildly sourish and slightly vinous berry-fruity notes; medium-dry, mildly sweet and fruity finish a pleasant level of acidity. 29.II.12
