Description
It was in 1973 that the adventure of the "Au Baron" brewery began. Alain Bailleux then purchased the last bistro in the village there. There he meets Danielle who will become his wife. Together, they embark on small catering. Later, Alain and his father, retired master brewer, challenge each other; create a craft brewery. This will be done on June 8, 1989 when Gussignies inaugurated the village brewery with Saint-Médard, a beer inspired by the farm-breweries of yesteryear. For a few years now, Florence and Xavier have taken over the reins of the family business and continue to make the Baron prosper by adding a local store where you can buy beers and products from local producers.

Pretty cellared 75cl sample Orange beer with some coppergreen shine; fluffy off-white head fed by good carbonation leaving shards of lace. Nutty nose, some citrus, swinging to some coloured malt. Bitterish beer; background fully nutty and oxydized, sherry-like by age, but then again tending towards ambrée malt taste. Faraway flavours of olives and parsley, again some citrus. Dry, slightly burning MF, good carbonation and medium bodied, retaining some refreshing properties. Bière de Garde is a stylename a bit overused for any northern French beer. If you take it as a beer that can be laid down and survive, this is a good sample. Has always been one of my personal favourites in N. France. Although... French... made 1km exactly from the Belgian border, and on 3km from Brasserie des Rocs...

Orange colur, very cloudy. Medium head. Citrus-yeasty, wit-like aroma. Fruity flavour, the alcohol is a bit too dominant though.
