Description
DAVO is ontstaan in 2012, vooral om onszelf van bier te voorzien. We brouwden toen, jawel, in pannen. Gegarandeerd.

Bottle. Almost black. Oak, soft roast and caramel in the aroma. Malty sweet, roasty flavor with oak, vanilla and dark chocolate. Low on carbon. I can’t taste much whisky.

Bottle. Caramel and a hint of roast in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with pear drups and coughing syrup. Tasty enough.

(Draught at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam, 15 Feb 2019) Dark brown colour, almost black, with foamy, beige head. Malty nose with notes of caramel, dried fruit, raisins, prunes and burnt sugar. Malty taste with caramel, liquorice, dark rye bread, burnt sugar, a touch of mint and a mild spicy bitterness. More than medium body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.

Hawaiian- and surf-themed wheat ale from a colourful can, bought at Speciaalbierpakket.nl. Snow white, medium thick, opening and eventually dissolving head, lightly hazy ‘old gold’ robe with apricot hue. Aroma of damp straw, withering kitchen herbs, old grapefruit peel, jute bags, dry cloth, bread crumbs, dried apricot, minerals, egg yolk, soapy wheat, flour, old nettle cheese, apple peel. Fruity onset but cleanish and quite restrained in sweetness, with unripe banana-, apple peel- and dried peach-like hints, medium carbonated, supple body. Dry bread crust- and wheat flour-like maltiness, jute rope-like hoppiness with a grassy, earthy character as well as aspects of faded, dried old citrus peel; some thin wheat soapiness lingers along with light yeasty fruitiness and breadiness, as well as a somewhat cheesy remnant of the hops. These hops clearly have passed their prime, having turned a bit cheesy and old dried herb-like; malty and wheaty, this is somehow reminiscent of a wheat-containing Belgian saison as well. In this shape and condition, I’d associate this beer more with haystacks and dry meadows on the countryside than with surf kids at a tropical beach, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, of course.

Bottle, labeled Indie IPA. According to Davo website this is their standard IPA, also 7,5%, 48 IBU so I think they maybe slighty changed the bitterness and now standard have 'Indie' in the name. Color: Slightly hazy amber, white head. Aroma: Floral hop. Taste: Medium floral hopbitterness combined with moderate to medium malty sweetness. Sugary notes and caramel hints. Bitter palate at finish. Medium body, average carbonation. Just a middle of the road, pretty malty and flowery IPA. Ok, but not my favourite IPA style.
