Clear yellow, the filtered version of the hefeweizen. Aroma of citrus, probably because of the lemon served in my beer. Much weaker taste than the hefeweizen. Those kristalls are useless additions as the hefe always tastes better.

On tap at Der Steinkeller. Golden body with a thin white head. Aroma is light and sweet. Flavor is pleasant, light sweet fruits and a touch of spice. A festive concoction, indeed.

This is a good wheat beer, better than hoegaarden in my opinion. Extremely smooth, goes down nicely. Nice aroma and a good head. Medium body.

On tap at der Steinkeller. I doubt it gets much better than this. An excellent hefeweizen, surely the best I've had the pleasure to sip. Pours a very cloudy orange with a thin white head. Aroma of cloves and banana. Flavor is similar, with cloves dominating, but banana and light citrus notes permeating the smooth spiciness. This smooth hefeweizen is quite refreshing and intriguing.

(500 ml bottle). Typical hefe in any aspect: Appearance cloudy golden, enormous head, lovely aroma of ripe bananas and cloves, refreshing crisp flavour with cloves. Very good.

An interesting reddish orange hue that looks like a doppelbock, has some straw tones in it. Smells liqueurish and a little malty with some straw aroma. Initial taste is strong like a grainy/liquor flavor with some malt coming in quickly. Body is sweet and medium full. Thins quickly towards the finish, which is roasty and medium dry. I keep thinking about straw and that dry liquory taste, but that is from the high alcohol content no doubt. A good beer, and drinkable at all temperatures, to my surprise. Could use some more hop character, as it is very astringent and needs the alcohol masked better. Im sure Id rate it higher if I was drinking this on tap in Germany.

Aroma was initially funky, but as I am somewhat familiar with the beer, atypical. Luckily, no skunking (damn green bottle)...whew. Flavor is typical doppelbock: raisins, caramel, sweet malts, and warming alcohol. The almost garnet-colored body is rather thin compared to other greats of this style, but this does not cloud the tasty treat that is Optimator.

Fresh malty nose. Dark brown with a rocky head. Malt based finished of with hops. Somewhat ighter than others of the same style. Thinish mouthfeel an a rather quick fading taste experience.

Very small and fast to go head but a great dark, almost black, color. A slight bitterness in the aftertaste but overall a great taste left in your mouth. The only downside is the thin body.

2003 draughtGotta keep in mind when drinking this, the aims of the brewmaster. A light, good tasting german lager. I was very happy with it when I took a chance and departed from my regular order of american light beers at the bar. Great hazy straw color with the usual dissipating small white head. Nice strong bite, actually has some fresh grainy taste and dosent die out and water down towards the end. Maybe would like some more distinctive hops in the body, but then I might be wishing for a different type of beer.
2004 bottle Another embarassing review by me above. Dont know what I was getting at. Perhaps trying to say that for a pale lager, this would be fantastic, if that’s what the brewmaster was shooting for, but rated against dortmunder/helles, this thing is practically flavorless water. Only fleeting malt taste up front, with some light hops bite as it finishes. No off-tastes, but nothing particularly on about it either.
