Description

BOTTLE 33 CL from Douberd.

Look: hazy straw-yellow, beautiful white creamy head.
Aroma: solid German flowery and lemony hops, some malt/honey sweetness.
Taste: solid body (maybe to full for a pils - or is it?), pretty sweet with a strong aromatic bitterness and long very bitter finish. Some faint alcoholic/solvent notes showing through. Very good otherwise.

330ml bottle, thanks to Benzai! Pours a murky dark brown with fast receding off-white head. Aroma of sweet malts and caramel, taste follows with smooth honey, liquorice and fruit cake creeping in. Not bad.

One of the very few Viennese lagers in the Low Countries, unfortunately no longer made nowadays. From old and very concise notes: frothy, off-white head on an attractively deep copper robe, malty, nutty, mildly (dried) fruity, soft floral hoppiness in the finish. Kind of a free interpretation of its style, which made it all the more interesting.

Tasted both in its original form and the new ’Proef’brouwerij version. Unusual, unfiltered Pilsener brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot, with a frothy, snow white, sticky head and deep ’old gold’ colour. Elegant aroma of pure pale malts and herbal, complex hoppiness; taste begins softly malty, fruity, then moving quickly towards quite strong, aromatic and herbal hop bitterness. A classic and a good candidate for the honorary title of "best Dutch lager".

Clear copper to brown colour. Aroma seems a bit ’stewed’ like a badly balanced DIPA. Plenty of caramel malt and a touch of banana in the taste. Lays quite heavy on the palate.

Draft at In De Wildeman. Pours clear amber brown with a tan head. Aroma of biscuity malt, toffee, no noticeable aroma hops. Flavour is moderate sweet and over moderate bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Don’t get much ipa or weisse with this one, just malt forward.

Hazy amber with small offwhite head. Light aroma of malt, yeast and caramel. Taste is similar, light bitterness and sweetness. Soft feel, low carb.
