At the Turtle 3. Really happy they still have it but expected the worst as it’s been 3.5 months since it came out. Murky caramel brown body, small off white head. Sourish nose, covers some light maltiness. The taste is certainly fresh, yet tart, pretty much infected. Will want ro rerate this if I get the chance. Ok low maltiness, peachy tartness. Slightly earthy. Meh.

Whee, ran into another Turtle seasonal while in Belgrade for a "new year seminar". This time they tried to emulate a Belgian style of sorts, which, it seems, means "dump spices and fruit in your lager" around these parts. It poured a deeper golden body (or so it seemed in the dim cellar of the Gospodar Jovanova location), with a white head. Sweaty nose, almost a trademark of sorts, carrying notes of rotten agrumes. Oh joy. The sweatiness, unsurprisingly, permeates the generally soft taste which carries a nice lemony note from the spices, maybe vaguely soapy. There’s even a light herbal, almost grapeseed-like bitterness building up in the aftertaste. After the initial disappointment, it kinda grew on me, more likable than the rest of their lineup available at the time (the pale and the battered ruin of what used to be a passable rauchbier). I love that they experiment, I just wish they’d nail it more often.

From tap. Pours cloudy orange with a creamy, dense and off-white head. Aroma is light metallic and light citric. Sweet fruity, light milky and light caramelish. Citric and light milky finish. Ends light citric and mild fruity. Off, yet not offense just boring. Increasing bitterness into the far finish.

18/08 Draught at the BBF 2011. As I was told, different that their dark beer normally offered in the brewpubs, now we couldn’t find it and it’s not listed anymore on brewer’s website, so it might be replaced by this stout? Anyway, its dark brown body had small head and smelled on caramel and coffee malt with inevitable herbal hops. Flavor was elegant coffee, sourish and dry, complemented a bit with caramel notes. Quite watery, thin bodied. Simple and shorter dry coffee and tobacco finish. A decent stout, unfortunately more body would help a lot to pronounce its fine malt. Thumbs up for the Black Turtle anyway!

18/08 Draught at the BBF 2011. It poured purple blueish body with medium sized violet head. Blueberry aroma, sourish and slightly herbal hoppy. Flavor is more sour than a sweet, tart like real blueberries though still seeming quite artificial. Problem with ugly bitterness showing up immediately remains, similarly to strawberry, but it might be a bit less pronounced. Liked it a bit more than strawberry, as it’s not that sweet. Also, it’s so much better than version I had the day before in the pub, where they mix it only after tapping the beer. I guess this contains less syrup.

18/08 Draught at the BBF 2011. It poured pink reddish body with small head of the same color. Strawberry aroma, prominent and fine. Flavor is sweet, strawberry, but as you sip it leads quickly to quite ugly, bitterish artificial aftertaste. Probably malty beer doesn’t react well with the juice. Pretty drinkable though. I feel like overrating it a bit.

18/08 Draught at the BBF 2011. Was so thrilled to see this here! It poured clear reddish to brown body with small head. Only little peat in aroma reveal its smoked character, while it’s normally fresh herbal hoppy (they tend to use those same hops in most of their beers). Bacon, smoked meat, charcoal, heavy and robust flavor, slightly rotten, while still interesting. Herbal hoppiness doesn’t belong here, though they’re obviously present. Medium bodied with fine peat and smoked meat finish. Slightly acidic here. Nice, though crude and too heavy, but I can appreciate they even dared to make a rauchbier!

18/08 Draught at the BBF 2011. It poured hazy orange body with smaller to medium head. Fine orange and other citrus aroma, sweeter than on usual IPAs I admit. Flavor was weaker and less tasty than expected, but still fine. Strange bitterness, like in German pilseners dry it all the way through finish, where cardboard remains only. Fruity citrus notes from the nose still exist in its flavor, rounding it slightly. Surely more hoppy than other local beers, more unusual, actually incomparable with ordinary brewpub lagers and a very interesting thing.
