Part of the "12 Greatest Brews of the World" sampler pack found at my local Wal-Mart. This beer is absolutely heinous. It was even lighter in color than the "Stout" I had before it. It looked like I was pouring a glass of Killian''s. Now that my "12 Greatest Brews" experience is over, what have I learned? I have learned that it is possible to make 12 different "styles" of beers look and taste startlingly similar. I have learned that I can pour out 180 out of 192 ounces of beer and not feel guilty. I always try to find the good in any non-macro beer, but in this case Old European needs to take one for the team and just go out of business already.

Part of the "12 Greatest Brews of the World" sampler pack found at my local Wal-Mart. This beer is just inexcusable. It looks, smells, and tastes nothing like a Stout. It pours a dark amber color and has the same flavor and aroma as every other beer in this set. Horrid.

Part of the "12 Greatest Brews of the World" sampler pack found at my local Wal-Mart. This sampler has made my average sink like a stone over the weekend, and I am realizing it has been awhile since I have had so many bad beers in a row. It''s a nice change from the pursuit of good beer all the time to just sit back some weekend and drink an assload of subpar beer. Anyway this brew scores points for being the first Old European that wasn''t orange. Other "red" and "brown" beers in this line have been thoroughly orange. It''s still not a good beer but it is progress. Pours and amber color with minimal head. Weak malt aroma. Back to the sour flavor, this one particularly tannic. Another drain pour.

Part of the "12 Greatest Brews of the World" sampler pack found at my local Wal-Mart. I have to give credit to the labels of these beers because they are actually quite informative. You can learn a lot about how particular beers are made and how they get their names. Unfortunately, the knowledge to glean only serves to make you realize how horribly wrong these beers are compared to what they should be. Case in point: This beer pours a dark yellow color with a thick white head. Slight floral hops aroma. Probably the least hops bite in any IPA I have ever had. This is still one of the better Old European brews I have had though, because it is not as sour and dry as the others. Still a pathetic rendition of an IPA though.

Part of the "12 Greatest Brews of the World" sampler pack found at my local Wal-Mart. I really wasn''t surprised that this beer was not brown after trying their Scottish Red Ale which was orange. This was orange too, with a thin off-white head. Barely any malt aroma. Flavor was nothing to write home about either, alternating between sour and lightly malty. Faintly nutty dry finish. Another loser.

Part of the '12 Greatest Brews of the World' sampler pack found at my local Wal-Mart. Like every other beer so far in this sampler, it is orange and sour. I defy anyone to correctly identify any of the beers I have tried so far. They all look at taste the same, they just have different labels. What the hell is a Bavarian Bock anyway?

Part of the 12 Greatest Brews of the World sampler pack found at my local Wal-Mart. I really hope that a typical macro drinker does not use this package as their first foray into trying new beers, because these brews will surely send them screaming back to the comforts of BudMillerCoors. Pours a murky orange (again) color with a thin off-white head. Vague aroma of sour apples. Flavor is bitingly sour with a dry, slightly hoppy finish. I am hoping these beers are at least doing some good in cleaning our my drainpipes.

Part of the 12 Greatest Brews of the World sampler pack found at my local Wal-Mart. No matter what the label says, they refuse to be any other color than orange. This beer poured a dark orange with minimal head and lace (+ one insect). The gnat was the most interesting thing about this beer. Practically no aroma (maybe some malt) and I actually thought about putting more insects in the beer so it would actually taste different than all the other Old European brews I have tried so far. No such luck.

Part of the "12 Greatest Brews of the World" sampler pack found at my local Wal-Mart. I am not usually a fan of this style anyway, so having a pale imitation like this didn''t help much. Pours an orangish-yellow color (I have noticed all the Old European brews have been some type of orange so far) with a thin off-white head. Mild hops aroma. Flavor is both watered-down and sour, with a somewhat dry finish. Avoid.
