Quart can from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours copper with a3 finger foamy beige head. Too much foam - all I can smell is a little roast caramel. Med - body. Flavor is smooth mildly roasted caramel. Not much hop here, but it’s much tastier than some Cold Spring brews, and I bet it’d wash down a lot of pizza. Better than bud.

12 fl oz bottle at Sunset Grill. Pours dark brown to pitch black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted dark malty and breadish roasted. Bitter, dark chocolate and roasted malty to caramelish flavoured. Lingering dark malty and caramelish into the finish. Smooth roasted and alcohol finish.

Weird little bottle found on the shelf at Julio’s today. Looks like a macro in micro clothing to me, but I’m a sucker for oak aged so the bottle made its way home with me. Pours a solid dark brown/black with a thinnish tan head that dissipates almost instantly. Smells of brown sugar, vanilla, caramel, dark fruit, earthy and woody. This is listed as a strong ale, the website describes this as an Imperial Stout, it smells like a cross between a Belgian dark strong and a porter. There isn’t much roast in the aroma or in the taste for that matter. Taste is sweet and malty with dark sugars and fruits dominating the taste. Slight alcohol and earthy hop in there as well. Bit of a roasted grain ash in the finish. Medium body and level of carbonation, with a slick watery mouthfeel. Decent brew, but really nothing special here. I have my doubts that the Cold Spring Brewery actually exists, but I won’t lose much sleep over it.

Pours deep brown into a snifter. Off-white head recedes leaving spot lacing. Sweet dark caramel and oak aromas. Thick with sweet dark caramel, molasses, oak and bourbon front to back.

Pour is a murky bronze with a small white head. Aroma is a honey sweetness. Flavor is at first a decent honey then comes some wet paper bag. Some nuttyness is left on the tounge. Nothing great but has a few things to look for.

from 32 oz can at the RBSG 2010 - What was I thinking drinking this beer at the Grand Tasting where so many fantastic beers were available? I have no idea. It smells malty with a trace of fruit. It’s not terrible. It is bland, light bodied and a rather lame brew.

32oz Can from my dad. A golden brown pour with no real head. Aromas of honey and diacetyl (big time butterscotch), with light corn, cardboard and wet dog. Flavors of diacetyl (butter and butterscotch), corn, and artificial cherries. Pretty awful. Slick buttery mouthfeel. Creamy, estery. I said that it was "crap"...my dad said that calling it crap was elevating the beer!

Bottle pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is sweet vanilla and bourbon with some wood notes. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, mild toast and grassy hops. Finishes with nice light barrels touches of sweet vanilla and bourbon. I like that the barrel is finessed, but it’s a rather thin brew.

12oz bottle pours a translucent black with a thin, white head. Nose is sweet, oats, grains, brown sugar, whiskey, vanilla. Flavor is chocolate, vanilla, malty, brown sugar, oats, lightly toasted bread. Medium bodied.

Bottle. Dark brown, clear. Aroma of chocolate liqueur. Taste is dark milk chocolate syrup. Kind of plain, but not bad.
