Description
Portland Brewing Co. A pioneer of craft beer. Crafting #PortlandOriginals since 1986.
Portland isn’t just in our name, it’s in our blood. We were born from the creativity which the city thrives. Founded by industry pioneers who had no rules or playbook, nevertheless helping shape the Portland beer scene we love today. Everyday we pursue with the same passion and thirst that we had brewing our first beer in 1986. Our dedicated group of brewers brings that passion into every batch, seeking that new amazing flavor. From that passion, each beer is created to celebrate “Portland Originals” like you, who are the creators, old and new, who make up this beautiful city we call home.
Admin Note: Portland Brewing Company merged with Saxer Brewing Company in 2000. In 2004 they sold the company to Pyramid Breweries out of Seattle. The Portland Brewing facility was then renamed MacTarnahan's Brewing Company later that year. In 2008 Pyramid Brewing was acquired by Magic Hat Brewing. In 2010 Magic Hat was bought by North American Breweries. Finally in 2012 Florida Ice & Farm Co. (FIFCO USA) acquired North American Breweries and with it the Portland Brewing brand. In 2013, FIFCO announced it would go back to the Portland Brewing Company name in order to better capitalize on the brands original roots.

16 ounce can. Looks nice. Pours a clear golden hue with a small to medium white head. A big husky nose with oranges. Soft, light perfume, biscuit malts, light oranges, pretty smooth.

Bottle from the PDX Made in Oregon. Pours copper gold with a creamy white head. Light floral aroma. Med body. Flavor is APA malty with citrus and some floral. Seems quite hoppy - there's a light burn. Reasonably dry. Decent IPA - tastes pretty nice.

Tap at OBF 2019. Pours hazy orange gold with a white head. Aroma is fruity - including pale prunus; hint of earth. Med body. Flavor is mostly citrus, a little pale prunus, and detectable lightly roasty malt. Fairly dry; decently bitter. Tastes good.

Pour is a clear gold with a large white head. I don't know what it is with these pacific northwest brewers making hazy IPA's that are nowhere near hazy. I have had several like this in the past few days. Aroma is some citrus and a big time grain. Flavor is a way weak fruit with a little honey malt and that's about it. Pass this one by

12 ounce can. I like hazy IPAs, but this isn't a hazy. Kinda odd that they can't make one despite the name. Pours a clear orange hue, I mean almost totally clear, with a small white head. A light grainy citrus nose. Big bread, some light resin but it is in the background, medium bitterness. Nothing even close to a good hazy flavor, but it is fine.

Pours translucent gold with a white head. Slightly sour lemonish aroma. Med minus body. Flavor starts with citrus wheat. Moves to mango. Citrus heads to grapefruit. Then things get confused for me. Tasty Berliner tho.

Poured from 12oz bottle a clear medium gold with a small head of foam that disappeared quickly.
The smell is delicate but I note some malty sweetness and some hoppiness.
The taste has some good hoppy notes on first sips..I can taste some citrus and some grass. The malt is pretty mild but it *is* there helping to make for a good balance. Not a bad APA if you're in the mood for something that is tasty and smooth...
Bottom line: This is a good Pale Ale that's worth trying.
